Cheri slipped inside as soon as the door was open wide enough and then closed it very gently to muffle the sound before turning and placing a hand very lightly on his eyes and forehead. He was a bit warmer than normal, probably a side effect from his headache. Gently she led him back to the bed and pressed him back down without turning on the lights. It was arranged much like her own room so it didn't really prove difficult to move around. Soon she had a damp cloth and pressed it lightly over his eyes to cool the inflamation. "How long has it been like this?" She murmurred softly.
"It just started, when I read about your dream..." Itachi relaxed onto the bed, his eyes still closed. Her hands were cool on his skin, and her voice was soothing. "I've been getting numerous headaches lately, however. I can no longer tell which are related to lost memories and which are simply headaches."
Her hands twitched slightly and mentally Cheri chided herself for writing such a thing down at all much less in a place Itachi or Sasuke could read it. She should have at least written in Mazoku. Well, it was too late now she supposed as she massaged his temples and the sides of his neck. "I shouldn't have written that where someone could read it, I'll be more careful from now on. What you read was probably close to a memory of your past, though I'm not sure how distorted this vision is compared to what really happened." Very slowly she started using healing maryoku over his eyes and temples, somehow she knew that his eyes were bothering him the most even though he hadn't said that specifically.
He reached up and grabbed her wrists, his eyes opening and wincing a bit at the odd green-gold light around her fingers. "You remembered.... something about me?" He asked, very quietly.
Cheri blinked in startlement and quickly pressed his eyes closed again while her hands were still glowing. "Don't open your eyes yet, they'll get worse! And yes, I remember you. We met before though it wasn't very long. I've been trying to be patient though, so it's alright for now if you take things slowly."
He was silent, while mulling over her words, though he kept a firm grip on her wrists (ignoring the odd impluse to rub his thumbs over her wrists). Itachi hadn't remembered things quickly at all, and all he remembered about her was that he'd known her, and somehow she'd been important, though how, he didn't know. He surmised that this was the reason why he trusted her as much as he did. He certainly wouldn't allow Sasuke into a dark room with him, though the younger man seemed to have recovered from his infatuation.
Finally, he spoke again. "What do you remember about me? How did we know eachother?"
The way he was holding her wrists would eventually let him moniter her heart rate though she didn't seem aware of that and continued using Maryoku on his eyes. The inflamation was receding slowly though and Cheri didn't want to force anything to go faster in such a delicate area. "Hm... That's rather difficult to answer."
"I have heard Sasuke complain of your vague answers. I request that you give me more information than you have him." Itachi frowned slightly, shifting on the bed. "I remember you vaguely as well. I believe an information exchange can be in order, though I remember little."
Cheri shook her head with a slight russle of golden curls and sighed. "I just don't want anyone getting hurt, that's all. I can't tell him anything that won't bring him pain, so I promised someone I would do what I could to protect him. If that means driving him to frustration with riddles and misdirection then that's fine. The more he remembers the harder it will be on everyone." Finally she stopped working on his eyes and moved her hands to turn the damp cloth over. "As for you..." Her pulse grew unsteady for a few moments. "I want you to remember me."
He'd only focused on her pulse because it was there, but the skip made him open his eyes and stare up at her for several seconds, confusion creasing his forehead. "I remember that I knew you. You were important, somehow, and I'm not sure I knew why even then." he finally said, very quietly. "I want to know how you were important, and how I knew you."
Her pulse jumped again and beat a bit faster when he said this and Cheri reached up to touch something wet on her cheek and looked at her hand in puzzlement before quickly wiping her eyes clear without realizing in the darkness that he was watching her. What mattered to her was that he felt she was important. So he hadn't lost interest in her! "The first time I really met you..." Cheri said finally. "You had a cold. When I came to see you I made you a bit more comfortable and you offered to pay me... So I asked for something rather unusual. I think..." Cheri paused for a moment and nodded, smiling at him again. "I think I'll ask for the same fee this time."
Her tears slightly confused him, and Itachi blinked, watching her wipe her eyes. So they had known one another... and she was important... he closed his eyes again for a moment. The headache had subsided, but was returning. Was he doomed to suffer a migraine every time he spoke to her or Sasuke, he wondered. "What may that be?" he asked, opening his eyes a little.
Cheri smiled and leaned towards him as though she were going to whisper something in his ear... then changed at the last moment to give him a good smooch on the lips. It was light though in case he got startled and bit her or pushed her away, both reactions she'd had in the past.
The kiss was unexpected, and a complete invasion of his personal space, which Itachi had learned he was rather fond of.... but he saw no reason to complain. Rather, he found it enjoyable, releasing her wrists to stroke her cheek and return the kiss. The only thing that ended the moment was a shot of pain through his right eye, and he winced and drew away, closing his eyes again. "Perhaps the payment was slightly premature..." he murmured, trying not to move.
Her hand rested on his eyes and started glowing and Cheri rested her cheek against his chest while trying to stifle her disappointment. "Try not to think about Sasuke or myself for awhile, or what we were to you once. This is a place where you can make new memories, so the past doesn't matter until you remember it. I can wait as long as you want me to. If you don't want me though, just tell me."
The odd tingle of something from her fingers made him feel a little better, and he relaxed, resting his hand on her head. "I don't know what I want or don't right now. I don't even really know who I am, outside of a prison guard with an impressive arsenal of weapons. What I want is to remember who I am, why I'm here, and why I remember you and Sasuke." he finally said, playing with her hair idly while she healed his headache. "I feel as though I have significant unfinished business to attend to, that being here has pulled me from. I was doing something terribly important, though I can't remember what."
"That's not something I know, or at least it's not anything that I remember. I doubt I ever asked you." His fingers in her hair felt good in a tickley sort of way, and smelling him around her made her feel safe for some reason. "You shouldn't let the prisoners near you, I'd be quite vexed if someone decided to try molesting you. And if you even think about cutting your hair I'll tie you up and tickle you with a feather until you cry for mercy. If you'd like, I could set up obsticle courses for you to keep yourself challenged." She was getting tired and eventually had to stop using maryoku before she fell asleep.
"It was merely an idea, to make them stop. I rather like my hair the way it is. As for the inmates..." Itachi opened his eyes and glanced at her, before deciding he could trust her with the information. "I've been doing side work for Sasori, which has helped my issues with them. Unfortunately it got me suspended for three days, but he should have better aids soon." he shifted as he spoke, stroking her hair and staring into the darkness. This was.... nice. He felt a little sleepy, now that the pain had subsided, but found himself wanting to continue the conversation.
"Silly, if you wanted help with that you could have just asked me. I'll bring you lunch next time you're working, I'm rather good at getting a point across to people when I want to. Try not to do anything that would lead you to joining them in the cells though, my honor as a former maou would prevent me from helping you then." Cheri said with a slight smile. Her head lifted as she resumed massaging his neck and temples lightly.
He stretched his neck, popping bones and settling back down on his pillow. "I do try to avoid contact with them, however, they occasionally attack me first, which has resulted in me being written up for excessive force in the past. I have a feeling the warden does not realize that it is a prison, not a kidnergarten. You're rather good at massages." he murmured, pushing her hair aside to rub her shoulder gently.
Cheri smiled at the compliment and then giggled. "It's probably because I've had a good number of them in the past. Ara! Maybe I should open a spa eventually!" She leaned into his touch like a cat being petted though she wasn't totally aware of it. She liked being touched for some reason though she couldn't entirely remember why yet.
"A spa would be nice. If you include pain relief services, you may find me there often. I have yet to find a good medicine for these frequent headaches." Itachi moved his hand up, rubbing her neck gently, and turned his head to stifle a yawn. How late was it, anyway?
Cheri caught the yawn and pretended not to notice. She was used to being up into the early morning hours and often watched the sun rise before going to bed, but Itachi probably worked mostly during the day. "I'm the only Mazoku here other than Wolfram, and he would always try skipping out on lessons. I'll see if there's anything I can find in the library though, since I've started finding more books from home in the library." She reached over and gently braided his hair up for the night without even thinking about it and then blushed when she realized, then smiled guiltilly. "I should go, Fai and I are making plans on opening a new cafe together."
He reached back, touching the plait lightly and sighing. "If they hadn't thought oddly of me before, they may if they see me with wavy hair. It'll be fine." Itachi added quickly, tucking it behind his head to keep her from undoing her work. Her later comment disturbed him for some reason, but he wasn't sure how. "Good luck with your cafe, and thank you for your help." he said, finally, before shifting away from her and standing, walking to the door. "Do you want me to walk you back to your apartment?" he asked, glancing back at the bed.
Cheri smiled and blew a kiss at him from the doorway as a reward for offering to be gallant. "I'll be fine since it's just a few stairs, and I'm armed. You should get some sleep now or you'll strain your eyes tomorrow." With that she slipped out into the empty hallway and walked towards the stairs without hesitation.
Itachi watched her go, before closing the door and returning to his bed. He sank down onto it, silent for several moments before balling up his fist and slamming it into the nightstand. The wooden table shook, spilling a glass of water, which Itachi ignored. Clearly, his evening hadn't been so enlightening after all, though he realized that he really had no reason to feel this way. Frustration and confusion eating at him, he pulled off his shirt and threw himself back on the bed, intent on going to sleep and forgetting about the mysterious woman that played with his heart.... if he could.
