CONGRATULATIONS; YOU HAVE BEEN RAPED BY MEDUSA'S FACE.
Now that I have your attention.
For future convenience and to get everything organized, I'm making an OOC post to let everyone know exactly what will be happening with the two trials. It's probably a good idea to read this stuff if your character is directly involved in the trials, but if not, feel free not to spoil yourself~
If you play a member of the town patrol and haven't already talked with me, I would suggest reading, and also I'd like to get in contact with you if possible. There's nothing in here that requires the actual involvement of any individual patrol member, and it won't hurt anything for them to completely ignore the plot, but they will ICly be affected as a group.
As everyone has probably already guessed, Medusa has Issues and satisfies them by ruining the lives of everyone, everywhere. Part of her future machinations necessitate the slandering of the patrol's good name; it is to that effect that she has arranged the "murder" of Godot. The Godot case can be summed up as being three distinct scenarios:
What Appears To Have Happened: Maya stabbed Godot in a fit of rage while they were stuck together. After disposing of the body, she returned to her room and collapsed in horror and guilt, and was discovered the next morning.
What Will Appear To Have Happened: Maya is being framed for the murder by the town patrol, who are the true culprits. The island's "disappearances", of which Godot was a victim, are in fact murder-and-body-disposal jobs done by the patrolmen at the behest of Memento and Eden.
What Really Happened: Godot disappeared by magic just like everyone else does. Medusa had Teatime arrange the crime scene to make it look like the patrol was responsible; in essence, she is framing them for framing Maya.
The Hows and Whys
First, during the sticky event, Medusa waited for a disappearance to occur- specifically, she was looking for someone to disappear while stuck to somebody else. She found her mark in Godot, who disappeared while stuck to Maya, and as soon as the sticky event wore off she sent Teatime to arrange the crime scene to her liking.
After doing so, Teatime went off and murdered Grif. This was not part of the plan, much to Medusa's annoyance. Thanks to a tiny, nearly undetectable blood trail, patrolman Albert Wesker realizes that Teatime is the culprit behind several NPC murders that have been happening sine Christmas. In addition to Grif's murder, the NPC was the only other person that Teatime has killed in the past week. The "second death" after Grif's that Shinigami told Ike about is mistaken to be Godot rather than the NPC.
After being confronted by Wesker, Teatime informs him of Medusa’s existence, and after tracking her down Wesker agrees to work with her, refraining from correcting Ike's mistaken assumption. Medusa, angry with Teatime for disobeying orders and getting himself caught, allows Wesker to accuse him of Grif’s murder (although not the NPC murders, which remain secret). It doesn’t matter who the defendants in the two trials are, since they’ll both be found innocent anyway, so this is merely Medusa’s way of punishing Teatime for his recklessness.
As the two trials progress, it becomes rather obvious that someone is attempting to frame Maya Fey for Godot’s murder. The planted evidence doesn’t point towards Medusa or her agents; rather, it points towards the island’s own patrolmen. Obviously, people are puzzled as to why the patrolmen would murder anyone, much less Godot… until Phoenix happens to “stumble” across the journal of Mayor Ari that Ike has been keeping secret.
Confused? Don't know who Memento and Eden are? I direct you to
this log from October. In summary, Memento and Eden are apparently a pair of child gods responsible for everything that's happened here in Memento Eden. Heather found the journal of Mayor Ari and gave it to Ike and La Resistance, who have not revealed it to the public since then because they're jerktowns. Everyone's favorite snake witch found the journal after snooping around the patrol headquarters, and will give it to Phoenix to use as decisive evidence during the trial.
Medusa has added pages that seem to indicate that the patrolmen were contacted by Memento and Eden, and made to serve as the child gods’ servants in exchange for special favors- memory regains, the safety of their loved ones, news of their homeworlds, etc. Memento Eden’s “disappearances” are evidently not done through magic, but rather, by the patrolmen murdering people and disposing of the bodies in the ocean. In the Godot case, Maya’s forced presence caused problems for the patrolmen, so they instead framed her for his murder. Grif, out late smoking that night, happened to spot them disposing of Godot's body and was murdered himself; the patrol left his body there and attempted to frame Teatime, who had a not-so-subtle dislike of the man.
The patrol, of course, deny any involvement, and tempers simmer down... until Ike, Fate, Agrias, and Wesker (and possibly more patrolman if any of you are interested) all confess that the document is true. In the case of the first three, it’s because Medusa has returned to her old tricks and planted snakes in the bodies of their loved ones and is threatening to trigger them if the three officers don’t cooperate. (Wesker, of course, is playing along of his own free will, though he pretends to have been blackmailed afterward.) Although death is curable in Memento Eden, the snakes are capable of causing extreme pain and irreversible mental anguish, and cannot be removed through healing. Medusa’s crystal ball allows her to watch them from afar to ensure that they cannot contact anyone or attempt to fight back, and although she obviously can‘t watch them 24/7, the patrolmen don’t know that. They are forced to play along with their anonymous blackmailer's demands, unable to take action for fear of what might happen.
The remaining patrolmen protest, of course, but with a good-sized portion of the patrol confessing, their testimony is seen as less resistance and more of a frantic attempted cover-up. As the patrol are the law in Memento Eden, and not everyone is fooled by Medusa's ruse, no official action is taken against them. They do, however, find themselves highly distrusted by the island’s residents, and paranoia begins to creep across the island. Maya and Teatime are pronounced Not Guilty and no official conclusions to the trials are reached... but something just don't seem right about the way things turned out....
It is here that this stage of Operation Destroy Everything Good Forever ends.
Questions? Concerns? Disbelief at the fact that anyone could be so nerdy as to take the time to plan all of this? Let me know here, or give me a shout out or we'll talk over AIM. This post will be screened for privacy, but for convenience's sake any non-private comments will be unscreened.
