[REC] Star Trek (TOS) (295/365)

Oct 25, 2012 02:07

I've actually been meaning to read this one for months and months, not only because it promised to be one of those classics of the fandom that really shouldn't be missed, but because it comes complete with a sequel that's five times as long and just as well-regarded and, well. I needed to start here, even if the summary sounded a little scary, even if story may have roughed me up a little. It did, I should tell you. This isn't an entirely easy story to read.

It also ends on a downbeat, but it stops in a good place, one with plenty of possibilities. I look forward to its sequel now. I hope to get to it soon. Meanwhile: an intense story involving Romulans, and hostile planets, and even more hostile alien artifacts, and trickery, and revenge, and sexual awakenings, and some incredibly intense moments between Kirk and Spock that made me flinch sometimes but that I couldn't put down, not for anything. Bonus tremendously well-drawn and very sympathetic original characters.

Beautiful work, truly, including tremendous original artwork.

The Price (Kirk/Spock (ST:TOS) | NC-17 | 42,977 words)
A newcomer to the Enterprise awakens troubling feelings in both Kirk and Spock. Before they have a chance to resolve things, Kirk sends Spock on a difficult mission, from which the Vulcan will not return unscathed.
