(no subject)

Today was the day. Barak Obama was inaugurated eariler. Now I have to admit that my knowledge of the American Constitution is very superficial. But I thought that the new President has to me sworn in before 12.00 noon otherwise the ballet is null and void. Is that correct or did I make that up? Anyone else notice that it was five minutes past when he became the next President? Does that mean that George Bush is still the mian man?

Coverage here started decades before the event and news reporters ran out of things to say after about 30 minutes (they told us he was African American about 600 times). So they told us how the bullet proof glass on a car absorbes and moulds itself to a bullet so that it can't bounce off. Which is very interesting. The first time you hear it. And I for one don't really care what the First Lady or the First Vice Lady are wearing. Or any of the ladies. Or gentlemen. Doesn't interest me. It would is this was a premiere and they were celebrities (and I use the term here to mean people who have done something, not Paris Hilton) but it wasn't and they are not. So of course we were told about that in great detail too. The only parts I wanted to watch was the actual ceremony.

And President Obama's speech. Which as an ex-English student I couldn't help but notice just how much imagery he used. Of struggling and conquering the struggle, of standing up, of breaking free, of starting anew. Which I guess was what people wanted to hear. He did mention some things which, if they happen would make a huge difference, and as an environmentalist I want the environmental changes he was talking about to happen. But will they really? One housemate is convinced that there is too much pressure on him and he won't be able to live up to expectations, and the other insists that even though he talks about change, nothing will happen and Anerica will be run just as it was before.

I guess we shall see. He has four years (very likely longer) to really do something and with the way the economy is right now if he gets it right, it will really be very noticable.

Anyway, in the world of me things have happened. The beer finally arrived!!! (Technically it arrived last week Friday while I was still in London). The home made beer :D I will post pictures tomorrow since I can't find the cable to connect my phone to the internet, but let me tell you that home brewed ale is actually very tasty. My Mum hated it but since she hates all alcohol that was expected. My Dad really liked it and so did I. I won 8 bottles of the stuff!!

Two of my firends gave me my birthday present. They realised that the thing I love most in this world is me, so they enlarged a huge picture of me and that was my present! This picture actually.

And I have to say that I do look absolutely lovely blown up in size. I think my friends know me far too well. They also bought me a HUGE Audrey Hepburn poster which I will only be able to display in house with a room dedicated to Pretty People On Huge Posters.

In crappier news I have couoght some other stupid stomach bug. Seriously, what is wrong with my digestive system? I don't eat crappy food yet NOTHING is staying in. And now I am constantly hungry and constantly tired. It doesn't help that when I do go to sleep I have to wake up because I have a stupid lecture or something to attend. They are so boring. I can't wait until all of this is over. I had also forgotten just how annoying it is to live in a house with a smoker. I am never going to be able to ever live with a smoker when I am older. Living here with one has made me completely paranoid. I smell the smoke everywhere. Even when I am no where near the house weraing clothes I know don't smell.

But to cheer myself up I started watching the Big Bang Theory. I haven't laughed so much in ages. And I LOVE Sheldon.

xoxo
