fff this is like my favorite thing to do.

WELL you already have super taste (read: similar tastes to mine) as evidenced by the Shins and the Decemberists, massive love, etc. I'll recommend a band + one (ha) particularly lovely song.

Belle & Sebastian - oh dear, one song? Try "Get Me Away From Here I'm Dying" and "Expectations" to start.
Tokyo Police Club - "Your English Is Good"
Vampire Weekend - fff I want to recommend their entire first album. Their sound is kind of mellow, preppy island rock, I suppose? No idea how to describe it. Try out "Campus" and "Oxford Comma."
Mika - this music is sad-proof. "Grace Kelly."
Of Montreal - oh lord, another conundrum. Pretty much anything from their album "The Sunlandic Twins" is amazing. Try "Wraith Pinned to the Mist (and Other Games)," "The Party's Crashing Us," and "Art Snob Solutions."
Regina Spektor - pure charm. I haven't listened to her latest album, but "Fidelity" and "On the Radio" are good classics of hers.

YAYY I'm glad 8D I figured I was probably writing up introductions for bands to whom you were already quite introduced. I'm glad the task of initiation does not fall to me, because I would fail. ヽ(´ー｀)ﾉ

Out of the remainings Of Montreal is definitely my favorite. (Andrew Bird is my favorite artist of all time but he might be too quiet for your tastes.)

According to this, my top ten artists are Tegan and Sara, The Decemberists, Rainer Maria, Placebo, Emilie Autumn, Beirut, Patrick Wolf, Tilly and the Wall, Antony and the Johnsons, Bloc Party, Regina Spektorm French Kicks, The Honorary Title, Cloud Cult, and Laura Veirs. HONESTLY THOUGH I'M DOWN FOR PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING ACCEPT RAP.
