Pick three characters from one or more of your books or WIPs and go to http://babynames.com or the baby name site of your choice to look up the meanings of their names. Copy and paste the meanings and your characters' names into your blog, and tell us if the meanings fit.

Jen's Answers

1. Lilah Covington, the narrator of PLATINUM. If we take the origin as Hebrew, Lilah means "lily." Other than drawing up visions of Lilly Kane from Veronica Mars, that sounds a little too delicate for my girl. As an English name, "Lilah" is both a variant of "Delilah" (which means "desired and languishing") and the feminine of Lyle. My Lilah is smart, strong, and highly desired, and she uses all of that to strategically protect the vulnerable side no one realizes she has. While Lilah doesn't seem at all like a female Lyle, I think the Delilah comparison works- even though her boyfriend isn't exactly a Sampson.

2. Annabelle Porter from TATTOO. Apparently, "Annabelle" means grace and beauty, which I'm guessing are the meanings of "Anna" and "Belle." This fits my Annabelle pretty nicely. Even though she's known as the shy one of the group, she's got more grace under pressure than Delia, Bailey, and Zo combined, and she's the type of person who will probably never realize how pretty she is.

3. Bronwyn, the MC of my just-for-fun project. Apparently, this name means "white-breasted." Ummmm... no comment.

So what about you guys? Do your characters' names fit?
