San Diego cross case tests law on public religious displays

My hometown of Eugene, Oregon had a large lighted cross on public land, high on one of two buttes, where it could be seen from much of town like some kind of illuminated "the rest of you don't count" sign for us non-Christians. It was there for many decades, much longer than the San Diego one has been. It was made of different materials at different times, having been replaced & upgraded. It was originally put up without any public permission or announcement, and later declared to be a "war memorial", although it is unmarked and no explanation is made of for what war or why a Christian symbol. It was taken down at last in the last few years, and many of us breathed a sigh of relief. It was moved to a local church's property, where it is quite welcome to stay and proclaim the Christianity of the church.
