Praise God for the job...but now we have to move....

Yesterday I was offered the job of Distance Learning Coordinator at the Lee Richardson Zoo in Garden City, Kansas. This morning I officially accepted the position, pending that I pass a background/motor vehicle record check (which will be no problem).

I will be presenting educational programs across the United States by way of video conferencing technology. I will be one of three members of the educational staff at the zoo and even get my own office with a window! I will get to work with live animals which include two owls, a hedgehog, and a 9 foot boa constrictor. I will also get to help present other programs at the zoo. I am really excited and think I will love this job.

There are some things that Chris and I are still worried about though. It will probably be hard for him to find a job since Garden City is small and isolated. I have always been a city girl and I am a little worried about the isolation (about 3 hours from Wichita, the nearest large city). Also, Garden City is much farther away than we wanted to move from our families (6.5 hours from KC). We keep telling ourselves though that it is much closer than Ohio was. The pay is not the greatest either (only $10.65 per hour) but cost of living is much lower there, and the apartments are cheaper too. It will probably be hard for us to find a church we like as well.

So I am torn between being really excited about the job, and really worried about the details. However, out of all the places that I have sent my application to, this is the one I think I will enjoy the most. It is exactly what I want to do (well, the technology thing is kind of different, but still) and I will be eligible for benefits and a raise after six months.

Now all we have to do is pack everything up and move, since my tentative starting date is February 18. So there are lots of details to work out. Financially we are not out of the red yet, and it will take some time to pay off some of this debt, but at least now I have a permanent job that will give me excellent experience in giving programs to school groups.

Thanks to everyone who has been praying for us. God does work things out in His own time and in His own way. We will miss Columbia and we will miss being able to see family and friends, but we feel this is where God is leading us, so that is where we will go.
