It has been a while since I have last written. Mostly because I have been lazy. There is a lot going on. The main thing is finances are a mess. Chris decided to start subbing, which is fine, but with subbing you only get paid once a month. So he will get a paycheck at the end of October for a few days he worked in September, but his first real paycheck won't be until the end of November, for the days he worked in October. We were really worried there for a bit because he wasn't getting any subbing calls, but thankfully God worked that out, Chris is filling in for a teacher who is going to be gone six weeks for surgery, so he has a definite six week position. Chris is also working at the hotel still on the weekends. Poor guy worked yesterday from 7-3:30 at the school, and then 4-12:30 at the hotel. Needless to say he was a bit tired.
My job is going well, the only problem is my internship is almost over and I don't have another job lined up yet. Our lease expires at the end of the year, so we are just praying that something will turn up before then. We are tired of moving and just want to find a place with a real job and settle down somewhere and make some money. We don't need a lot of money, just some steady income would be nice. We are both getting big lessons in faith. I am trying not to freak out about not having a real job lined up and losing our lease, but sometimes it is hard not to. When we go to the grocery store, we always get depressed because we end up putting lots of things back and eating only soup, rice, and potatoes.
Don't get me wrong, my job is nice. The only thing I don't particularly like about it is that I am gone a lot. Last week I went on a caving conference to St. Louis. It was a lot of fun and I learned a ton of stuff about caves. One of the days was strictly field trips to caves, and I got to see some awesome formations, bats, salamanders, and other cave stuff. We even got to eat a banquet in a cave. It was this huge cave room that they had put electricity in and tiled the floor so it could be used for receptions. Way cool. Next week is a Monday through Friday trip to Carthage, MO for our last bit of research for the year. I don't really relish the idea of being gone a whole week, especially when I was gone three days/two nights last week, but after this we are done with our projects. I have kind of taken on a side project of making presentations for school groups about conservation. I will be presenting to my sister's school at the end of the month. My ideal job would be working at a nature center and presenting to school groups, so this is helping prepare for that and will look good on my resume.
Well, that's about it. I have my application/resume out at lots of places, so if I get a job offer I will definitely let everyone know. I am not bothering telling people when I apply for jobs, or if I get an interview (which I haven't yet) because I am tired of telling people that I got rejected again. Still don't understand why I can't get hired, I have excellent grades, a master's degree, and now I have field experience. I just keep telling myself that God has a plan and trying my best to leave it in His hands. Don't feel bad for us, this is just a test of faith, and when this is over, we will look back on it in years to come to remind ourselves how God can work in the lives of those who believe.
