Maybe a dumb question but does the "Current Archive Start" indicate that that's as far back as we can search? Or are comments from earlier than that searchable?

Your first idea is correct - the archive start is the very first comment I stored in the database and nothing before that is searchable. I haven't finished the code to go through all the old flat-meme pages and add their comments to the archive and with current conditions I'm unlikely to any time soon, so that's probably not going to get any better.

Got a problem? Got an idea? Really want to know how much I hate Sphinx? This is the thread you're looking for.

I've noticed that a few comments that I know exist from the last post aren't showing up on the search. Since I'm one of the Laytononnies, I've noticed it mainly with all the most recent Layton threads and subthreads, but it's likely it's happening to other threads in Post #214 and #215 as well. I search for words that I know are in the threads, and they simply...don't appear in the search.

Thanks for reporting this! LJ stopped sending comment notifications (other than new threads) 10 days ago and just started up again today. The search engine currently uses those to build its database, so there's a big gap in the middle. I'm working on writing the web crawler to go through FFA's flatmeme pages and fill in those gaps as well as old posts, but it's been hard to find time. :(

I'll go ahead and add that to the front page so that people know about the problem.

Search queries including both a pipe character and quotation marks seem to have some issues.
e.g. 1927 results for: hannibal | "bryan fuller"
But when I click on page 2 (or back to page 1 from a different page), +'s get added and the search ignores the OR, treating them as ANDs instead:
59 results for: hannibal+|+"bryan+fuller"+

I'm not sure if this is an issue on my end only -- sorry for bothering you, if so! (And if not, so much sympathy for regex with special characters.)

Hey, I'm an author being talked about in one of the threads and I saw another of my stories mentioned. I'm curious how I could track that thread down. The comment says the piece was linked, but I'm not sure how to navigate around your community.
Thanks :-)

The search engine is somewhat spotty in what I've got archived, but it's accessible at http://dememe.info and the passwords are up above in the post? I did a quick search for "lexxiescott" and didn't get any hits, but you may be using a different author name. If there's anything else I can do to help I'd be glad to, otherwise your best bet would be to ask the tracking nonnies in the comm. Good luck!

It should be back to normal, I'm hacking in a paginated flat view and working on the live server because my dev instance is borked. Flying fast and loose, a bit!

Many thanks for all you do -- the flatview emulator is great!
