Do you really need one?

[He shifts a little awkwardly, uncomfortable]

You don't have to, or anything.

i never thought i'd find an alex rider player, man! which book is he from? precomplex October 23 2011, 16:28:43 UTC
A little late for that now, don't you think?

[How do you even hug someone who isn't family or Butler?]

Reply

:3 currently, scorpia but I've plans to take him from the very end soon. Where's Arty from? recanting October 23 2011, 16:37:35 UTC
Look, just forget it, alright? I'm sorry I asked. I don't know what got into me.

[Alex is angry at himself once again, for being stupid.]

FFFF AWESOME! Arty's from time paradox, let's pretend atlantis complex doesn't exist precomplex October 23 2011, 16:45:42 UTC
[Artemis gingerly pats his shoulder. It's not a hug, but it's an attempt to connect with another human being; Butler would be so proud.]

I would think the stress of working with the government got to you, if I may point out.

Your skills are wasted there, anyway.

AC is the one Fowl book I haven't read yet, so that shouldn't be hard! recanting October 23 2011, 16:52:16 UTC
[He grins cheekily - the pat to the shoulder felt so stiff and automated, but at least it was humorous.]

So where do you think I should work then?

AC is such a nightmare to me, but it has awesome Butler moments so i'm torn ;; precomplex October 23 2011, 17:14:18 UTC
Did you for a moment forget who I am?

[He knows this is called banter, and he engages it enough with those he's come to know as friends - and yet old reflexes die hard.

Artemis makes a try for tolerance, anyway.]

It would be so much better for you if you chose to work for us instead. We pay better, and we're more competent, Mr. Rider. You wouldn't even have to chase after me for past perceived offenses; the MI6 likes to hold grudges for a very long time.

aww, I love Butler so much recanting October 23 2011, 17:53:01 UTC
[Alex is used to dealing with people like Artemis, in a way. People who were more comfortable with figures and facts rather than people. Mr. Blunt and Yassen Gregorovitch had both been somewhat like this, though not to the same scale.

He simply sighed, trying not to look as mentally exhausted as he was feeling.]

Let's say I did decide to work with you...what would I be doing?

[His stint with SCORPIA - however brief it was, has tempered Alex a little bit.]

Butler is the best ever, man. Him and Alex will understand each other i think precomplex October 24 2011, 11:20:35 UTC
[Only one of those two are firmly entrenched on the other side of the law - and somehow he's the one with clearer morals than the supposed good guys. Alex will understand, surely.]

Helping us save the world. Not any different from what you already do, I'm sure, but with better... [Does he say what he thinks without the coating, or does he choose to be polite?] manners.

To a degree. It's only an offer, Mr. Rider, far be it from me to force you into anything, we're over that kind of business now.

Or will you have a problem with the background my family carries?

they could spar together and stuff. While Arty rolls his eyes recanting October 24 2011, 12:18:32 UTC
Just call me Alex.

[He mutters it, obviously disliking this whole 'Mister' business. Other than that, he was quiet for a moment, with a look on his face that clearly said that he was weighing his options, analyzing all the sides. He wasn't as smart as Artemis was, but he knew he was smart enough. And daring, which sometimes made all the difference.

Alex sighs, pushing hands into unruly blonde curls, knowing that he was probably going to get sucked into something else.]

Look, thank you for the offer but...I just want to go back to school. Maybe finish a term without being hospitalized. That would be nice.

[MI6 - and Artemis, if he's smart - knows that he'll be back, because this sort of thing was in Alex's blood, and normal life would no longer satisfy his need for adrenalin.]

rolls his eyes forever while riding on a horse lmao yep precomplex October 24 2011, 13:08:06 UTC
Oh, school.

[Can you hear the disdain in his voice? Yes. He doesn't like being told things he's already known ten times over, especially when the academics of the lessons are profoundly basic and wrong and riddled with holes so wide you could build a satellite in the cavern of it.

Artemis folds his arms over his chest, his mouth drawn into a thin line.]

School isn't nice, it's plain and boring. Why would you waste your time with that?

lofl the ONE THING Alex can't do. Good job Arty! recanting October 24 2011, 13:40:29 UTC
[He really hadn't expected Artemis to understand.]

Because that's where normal kids go. The ones without MI6 hounding them all the time. I'm missing more classes then I attend at this rate.

hey at least alex can do fighting. arty can't even punch a thing. precomplex October 24 2011, 15:36:25 UTC
[He's trying to see the appeal. It's just hard to.]

So get a tutor? They're not so expensive.

-Or is that a concern for you? I can help, if you need it. [Just to have something to piss the MI6 people with. Look, bonding with your underage agent, Mr. Blunt!]

Alex should attempt to teach him. It'd be hilarious recanting October 24 2011, 15:58:15 UTC
[He could understand Artemis' need to piss MI6 off. Alex had his own share of times when he'd been cheeky and insouciant with those apparently in charge. Or even those who wanted to kill him. By now, it was a Thing.]

You know it's not that. You probably have a file on me somewhere on your hard drive.

[Shrewd as ever, Alex gives the grin of someone who knows he's right. But he also knows that this curiosity would eventually get the better of him. He sighs, shakes his head in disbelief as if he can't even believe that he's doing this.]

Alright, fine. But you'd better move fast, you know. I bet MI6 already know you're in the country. They're probably tracking you right now, you being a threat to national security and all.

Hard drive. How cute. [With a flourish Artemis flicks up to the light a small keychain, at the center of which is a small stone, roughly the size of an earring stud.] Liquid crystals - the future of data storage. Don't be so normal.

[And with the grin of a boy who's been handed a license to do what he wants Artemis tips his head and holds out his hand. They can have all the issues with authority figures together, in between homework and saving the world. And maybe horses.]

Oh, I know. They're listening in right now, actually, but either way - it's a pleasure to have you on board, Mr. Rider.
