[ he left. he graduated high school and he left, because that's what people do. you get out of lima before you get stuck, take the first opportunity to get out and run with it. and for a while, it had looked like he wouldn't have to come back. football scholarship led to scouts led to opportunites to play in the big leagues, right up until one tackle went wrong and he busted his knee.
bye-bye nfl, hello lima.
he didn't expect to see rachel here, of all people, she was supposed to have gotten out. he does a double take, leaning out from behind the bus stop. ]
no no no you are perfect hello <3negative_fiveJune 25 2011, 05:48:06 UTC
[It's not that Rachel would ever say that she was unhappy. But her destiny had been pulling her elsewhere. Broadway. So it didn't make sense that she was still here, in Lima, of all places.
Well, not exactly still. She'd been there, gotten settled, cast in several shows. Until her dad had been diagnosed with MS, and she'd instantly returned to help him.
She'd been running into Finn, of course, who would never leave Lima, it seemed, but other than that, life had become rather empty. There was family, and her dads, of course, but other than that, well, Noah was the last person she'd expected to see here. Stopping dead in her tracks and nearly dropping her cloth shopping back, she stares at him for a good minute or so before looking both ways and running across the street.]
[ like just about every other interaction with rachel that he could remember, he didn't quite know what to do with her. he smiles at her, because he could never not smile at her, hands sliding into his pockets. ]
Just couldn't stay away. What're you doing back in town, Berry?
[ he keeps his weight off his left leg. there's a brace there now, compensating for torn ligaments and ruined joints. but she looks the same as ever, almost exactly as he remembered her. funny how that happens. ]
[She hangs her head slightly, biting her lip as she frowns. It doesn't get any easier to talk about, and frankly, it's depressing to see that Noah is back here, too, whatever the reason. She should be the only one stuck here involuntarily, and frankly, she can't see him coming back here of his own accord.]
I'm helping my dads out. There's been some health issues and I couldn't just abandon them like that for a career.
[ this is a million different shades of awkward. his eyes stay on her face and he thinks she's still beautiful in that classic way, like the old movie stars he used to see on television late, late at night. but that thought isn't relevant to anything, so he dismisses it. ]
[She nods, though that really isn't true. Survival chances with MS are slim at best, but Noah doesn't need to know that. Especially when she knows that he belongs here about as much as she does. Finally she looks up at him again.]
[Rachel has to just imagine how she would feel if her voice failed her, or she ruined her knee to the point of being unable to dance and sing on stage. It would be heart-breaking. She could never even see herself recovering from that sort of thing.
The words leave her mouth before she can stop herself.] Um, did you... have time? I so rarely run into anyone but Finn around here.
[ there's a split second pause at the mention of finn's name. rachel and finn have been having that on-again off-again thing forever, and he can't quite tell if it's still going on.
but it's rachel. he can't say no to her. ]
I got all the time in the world, Rach. You wanna grab a bite?
[There's such a difference between her now and before she left, and she doesn't think she can take being with someone who didn't at least try to get out of Lima. The contempt is more than there.]
[ he offers her his arm. long-standing habits die hard, even though it's been a long time since he was the boy who offered her his arm in the hallways at mckinely. ]
[ this is familiar. puck doesn't actually know how to deal with that so instead he just heads to breadstixx. which is still there, in all its glory. lima never changes. he holds the door for her and everything.
[It actually makes her stomach flip a bit, and she grins, leading the way. When he follows, she takes his hand, keeping her grip loose enough for him to pull away should he want to.]
[ oh. he hadn't been expecting her to do that. it'd been a long time. they'd gone their seperate ways, and they hadn't even managed to get together in high school, but maybe...
well. he squeezes her hand once, letting her tug him along to the table. ]

[ it's kind of pathetic, when he thinks about it. he shrugs his shoulders like it's nothing, like this is no big deal. ]
