Ahaha, 9-5 -- Epic fantasy. REID'S AN ELF.angustifoliumSeptember 17 2011, 01:04:42 UTC
[The campsite was dim and quiet, the sun having set long ago and the fire banked so the embers would glow through the night. Everyone else was asleep, but one sentry stood at the camp's edge. The hood of his cloak was pulled up and over his head, his ears, one hand holding an arrow nocked in his bow.
No trouble was expected tonight, but he was wary as all elves were. The lands were cursed and the shadows flickered. Even with the appropriate wards around the ring of tents, he'd decided to stay up all night, to make certain dawn came peacefully.]

[It was indeed thought that all were asleep that night under the stars. But a particular warrior could not sleep these days; especially since his fellow elven comrade was taking the position of guarding for perhaps an uncounted night in a row. The look of sleeping was merely but a facade, and he snuck over to the sentry with a slight, sad smile.
They'd been going for many days. Long days, long nights, some without food even. None the less, they trekked on. The small group continued their quest. And in the process of the battles, the peace, and the silence of each other's company... somehow, feelings bloomed in some more than others. Especially for him.]

[His ears had picked out each step of the human on the leafy forest floor. The words, the approach - neither surprised him. He didn't take his eyes off the distance, off of those shifting shadows. That movement was natural in these woods, with the restless spirits clinging to the trees like an extra layer of bark.]
Three. These forests aren't safe. Darkness dwells here, waiting for the unwary.
[Three days and three nights without sleep, but that was nothing for an elf. The humans needed their rest much more than he did.]
