Mark was looking through the book he had next to him on one side of the bar, occasionally marking a note in it. With his other hand, he absently picked up his beer and drank from it. This worked out perfectly all the way up until he knocked his drink right into the woman sitting next to him. "Aw shit! I mean-- I'm sorry." He immediately started trying to contain the mess with the tiny napkins usually found on a bar top.

Kellie made a startled little noise when the drink hit her, glad that she was off work and therefore not wearing one of her suits that she'd have to get dry cleaned. "It's okay," she said, reaching for a few napkins herself. "This shirt is ages old anyway, I should probably have thrown it out awhile ago."

Mark looked young, even younger when he took his glasses off, moving the book with his elbow out of reach of the growing puddle. His general manner suggested someone who hadn't gotten a good night's sleep in a while. "Really? You're not just saying that to make me feel better?"

"Well, I liked it, but I'm not gonna go to bed crying if it's not salvageable," she said, mopping up her shirt and then giving up. "Are you okay? Rough night?"

"Yeah. Rough's a good word. I'm on the night shift for this job." Technically it wasn't a lie, given his chosen choice of profession. But mentioning you were a vampire hunter in polite society tended to make people shift uncomfortably in their seats and then start slowly backing away.

"Ouch. Good luck with that." Kellie worked late sometimes but it could hardly be considered working nights. Especially now that she was married she tried to keep overtime to a minimum. "What's it you do that's wearing on you?"

"I'm a reporter." It was always a good cover story, one that Ben and he had focused on refining during their travels. "Right now, I'm focusing on a piece involving the theft of bodies from the morgue. The research has been a killer."

Aha I found you. 2, sort of. notasweetdream February 7 2013, 22:36:43 UTC
Today, she was going to have some good quality Her Time, by herself. She do could spend a good day shopping for snacks and other fun stuff without her old friends in this original world of hers. Friends or not, she needed this. She'd see Jim, Rusty, and all those other good people to do more catching up with later.

Mari had thought of her poor sick mother at the hospital not too far from here. Mom had more gray hair and wrinkles than the last time she had seen her, from seven long years ago. God, it's felt like a lifetime ago. She couldn't help feeling a little sad, again, but this time she wasn't going to let herself feel so bad about it. She'd look for a cute or funny Get Well card for her! Maybe she'd find something else nice. She was going to visit Mom again today. I hope she feels at least a little better...

Worry for her when you get there, she told herself as she stepped into the department store. She needed to continue to adjust to life in this world again, the one she was born in. It was tough, and it would take a while, ( ... )

Yep! Got your PMs, will read them when I'm not eating. clarityofprose February 7 2013, 22:43:13 UTC
Kellie was in the middle of deciding between several varieties of Chips Ahoy. She had forgotten how many different ones there were. Muttering to herself she glanced up over at the other woman and offered a smile. "Oh, I'm sorry, am I in your way?" she asked, stepping aside.

Just finished eating myself. Will also start tagging with Jake sometime soon. Separately of course! notasweetdream February 8 2013, 00:51:34 UTC
Mari almost didn't notice the blonde lady, for she had a lot on her mind. Making eye contact and showing her a polite smile, she replied, "No, that's okay."

She was very pretty, looked to be likely around Mari's own age.

Then Mari glanced to where she was browsing, and saw a red colored package of Chips Ahoy that seemed very good to her, right away. "Although, you do have kind of the right idea there." She picked out the Chewy Gooey Caramel brand. "One of my favorites." Content, she placed the package in the shopping basket. Hope she doesn't recognize my face from any media source... Are these cookies very new? Or have they been around a while? She couldn't remember seeing those from before, and her long term memory was very, very good usually.

Ah well, it was just a trivial matter. Not important. ...There could be the chance that she didn't know who Mari was famous for at all. Yeah, maybe one in a hundred chances, snarked her inner voice.

Mari looked opposite from the cookies to other comfort foods. Ah, Cream Cheese and ( ... )

Kellie chuckled and grabbed the original one herself as well as a bag of Cheetos from the other side of the aisle. "What's got you reaching for the ocmfort food?" she asked.

Hmn, well she seemed friendly. Not that she minded, but, knowing Earth has had people a lot more nosier and persistent--both reporters and non-reporters... Mari felt a bit cautious, as she knew she should. She knew what she could say without drawing unwanted attention to herself.

Mari left the Cheetos alone, and let the handle of the basket hang from one of her arms. As she could just lie about what she was doing, there wasn't much of a point to it.

She shrugged, and chose to be vaguely honest. "Not entirely sure, but maybe it's good to prepare for hard times ahead. This, and to have enough for both myself and old friends who'll visit and help me move through them."

Sadness or depressive tones were blocked, for she was really trying to brave it through today.

"That doesn't sound good." Kellie blinked a bit, not really sure how to respond to that. Then again, she was an optimist - she always tried to look for the best in a situation and to surround herself with people who did the same. "I hope things turn out better than you're expecting," she said.

Hope her history didn't make your brain implode too much. I've put her through a lot. ^^; notasweetdream February 9 2013, 22:44:35 UTC
“I hope so too,” Mari admitted, “At least a little better. Or a miracle, even. Because...” She breathed out a sigh, and still kept most of her emotions from latching onto her voice. “What I’m going through overall, it’s complicated.” And it sucks. “Helping my mom out, and hoping and praying she’ll survive her heart disease though-not so much.”

Lots of people have grieved over the loss of their parents, right? Only, they hadn’t been ripped apart from everything they once knew for so long, and being unable to control it, or find a way back. Now that Mari’s finally returned, bam; she had felt the impact of what has happened in her original family while she was away. Hell, she was still feeling it.

Mari wasn’t sure why she even mentioned Mom’s illness to her, to whom she didn’t really know. Maybe it had something to do with being apart from her close friends back at the Nexus. Part of her had wanted, needed to be with them. Contacting Tifa, Zack, or anyone else there about what was going on was impossible, and she’d known it all along ( ... )

My main Animorph kid... 8. (Could get interesting. Two wrongly accused in one cell? Y/N?) jakethetigerboy February 8 2013, 06:06:15 UTC
Jake was slowly coming to.

The last thing he remembered was being a falcon up above, in the middle of a very important mission. He was shouting in thought-speak to his friends to bail, because there were a lot of those bladed looking aliens known as Hork Bajir. All of them were outnumbered inside that warehouse.

Once they got outside, Human-Controllers started firing off their guns, this he also remembered... Had he been shot? Was he...dying? Was he human or was he still in bird morph?!

As he didn't choose to open his eyes just yet, he tried to move a limb, ever so subtly now. His fingers were touching a smooth surface. This entire floor was cold and hard as concrete.

Okay, so somehow I demorphed. He was as his human self... His human self still wearing his skin tight clothing, a t-shirt that was a bit small for his tall frame, and biking shorts. Barefoot, since his feet also felt cold, not just his head and arms...

Jake tried to listen for his friends, but he couldn't hear their voices, neither aloud or in his head. Maybe they ( ... )
