Katniss had taken a lot of convincing to even start thinking about having children. The fact that they now had one, and this was real -- not a drill, not pretend, not someone else's they had 'borrowed' for practice -- and she was terrified. It probably wasn't the most scared she'd ever been, but it certainly made the top five.
She didn't hold him often, if she could help that, because holding him meant she could drop him and that wasn't a risk even worth taking. But she knew not holding him was probably not a good idea either, so she tended to settle for having him with her on the bed, and staying very close -- close enough to hear his breath and feel his tiny heartbeat on her skin.
Peeta was a patient man and stayed by her side. They were both easing into this and he knew it would take time. All he ever hoped for was she didn't resent him for wanting this. He laid in bed with her smiling as he watched her with their son.
[It wasn't an easy pregnancy for AJ, not at all, but as she stroked their newborn daughter's soft hair gently, she couldn't help but start to tear up. It had all been worth it in the end]
After eighteen hours in labor, Annie had been exhausted. After a day and a half in the hospital, she had been ready to go home. Now, as the baby slept in its tiny little bassinet, she stared. Look at what they made. Aww.]
[Harvey had at least been there telling Jessica he needed to go. He'd held her hand which he'd admit to no one but himself hurt like hell. He did smile though looking into the bassinet. They made a damn fine baby.]
[For what it was worth, Annie hadn't tried to hurt his hand, but his son had been insistent about her pain levels. Nevertheless, now that he was here and healthy, she couldn't help but feel proud of herself. Well, of them.]

I think you're holding him wrong.
[Not that she knows any better. Actually, she's kind of freaking out. But inside, hoping that Jace won't see it]

[Except the baby starts wailing almost as soon as she picks him up. More attempts to shift positions just leads to louder crying]
Okay, I lied. I don't know either.
