It's been too long since he last fed. She knows that. It was a stupid risk going out alone when she still hasn't learnt to control herself, but she thought she'd be okay.

Now Elena's staring at the unfortunate woman who's walked into the alley she's been hiding in to try and get away from the painfully loud sound of hearts beating, and she's not sure she's going to be able to stop herself. She steps out from the shadows, hands balling into fists as she tries to suppress the urge to just tear the strangers throat out.

"This probably isn't the best way to go," she says quickly, trying not to stare at her neck. Her voice is strained and comes out as more of a hoarse croak than anything, "You should try a different route."

Emily's just gotten off her shift at the hospital and starts to walk home. She's heard the stories about Mystic Falls, about the wild animal attacks, and has been warned to be careful at night. To her it sounds like nothing more than a silly urban legend, made up by local high school kids, trying to scare each other.

When she turns down the alley, she jumps a little when she hears the girl's voice. There's something wrong with her, and Emily can't help but be concerned.

"I always walk this way. Are you all right? You don't look well," she says.

God, she's starving. It takes her a moment to process that the woman has responded, and she shakes her head to clear her kind a little, trying to focus. You don't want to do this. You'll hurt her. You could kill her. She has to keep reminding herself of this, she any afford to lose it so close to home.

Still, she's barely aware as she takes a step closer and her whole mouth is aching. She's sure the signs are showing on her face by now and she quickly looks away.

"I'm fine, it's just...it's not safe around here. You need to go," her voice is growing more urgent, she's panicking now and she all but shouts her next words, "Get out of here, seriously!"

The girl's behavior is a little worrying. Emily knows she could go, but she took an oath to help those who need it, and it's obvious this girl isn't well. Without thinking, she takes a step closer, trying to get a better view of her. Maybe she's ill, or maybe she's gotten into some bad drugs. Whatever the reason, Emily wants to see for herself.

"I'm not going to leave you here. I'm a doctor, and I can help. And, we won't tell anyone if you're afraid of getting into trouble," she says.

"Just go!" She's growing more desperate now, with no idea how she's supposed to get out of this situation. Why can't this woman just leave before something happens? She wants to run, but she wants to feed more, and the indecision is tearing her apart.

She grabs her head, breathing hard and trying to push past the desperate need for her blood, but this stranger is moving closer to her and all she can hear is the deafening sound of her heart beating away in her chest. She wants it so much it's almost making her sick, and it's about then that she snaps.

"It's not trouble for me I'm worried about," she mutters, and turns fast. Moving fast as she can, she's suddenly right next to Emily, and she grabs her quickly by the hair and jerks her head to the side.

"I'm so sorry," she can't help but gasp the words out, even as she's baring her teeth to sink them into the woman's neck.
