16. Sense of Hearing and Sense of Preservation

He's not sure what in the hell had set him off. Whether it be the man who had bumped into him or... something else entirely. He couldn't hear what was being said but he honestly didn't care. Nor did he care when he turned hitting the guy. The guy was just a tad bit bigger than him too... that couldn't be good.

"Whoa, whoa." It isn't often that Tony Stark is the one stepping between two fighters squaring up to each other, but here he is, his back to Steve while he gives the pissed-off stranger his best grin. "Doesn't know his own strength sometimes, isn't he great? Captain America, everybody," he says and keeps the smile in place until he's turned away.

Then it's a glare and a hissed "What the hell was that, Rogers? We're at a press conference. Do you know how weird it is for me to be saying 'behave yourself, we're at a press conference'? It's weird and it's wrong and what the hell?"

Unfortunately for Tony... Steve can't hear a word he says. He doesn't even realize that the man was introducing him to them. Though when he's glared out, he scowls slightly watching him.

"...What?"

Unfortunately for Steve, Tony misinterprets this and his expression only goes darker. "'What?' What, 'what?' I thought you were supposed to be good at this stuff. Wasn't your name up in lights once? Get over here," he snaps as he grabs a beefcake arm, fully intending to drag Steve off to one side.

Those eyes narrow with agitation and confusion as he jerks out of Tony's grip. He's doesn't understand what the hell is wrong with the younger man. Narrowing his eyes at one of the bigger guys that come toward him, he turns decking them square in the jaw. Which only pisses the guy off causing him to grab a hold of Steve, lifting him clear off his feet.

Shit, shit, is this an armor moment or can Tony still salvage it through sheer charisma? "C'mon, kids, let's play nice," he said loudly, the playful words not at all matching the stony look on his face. "You wouldn't want to be the guys who punched Captain America and then met Iron Man's lawyers. Awkward."

And he aims a kick at the back of Steve's knee. It's nothing personal, Cap, it's just that punching civilians at a press conference is almost indescribably bad PR, even by his standards. Tony would honestly rather have Steve trying to punch him. At least he could make up a reason afterward that everyone would buy.

We're not so sure that the bigger guy really gives a damn about that charisma or Iron Man's lawyers. Though he does drop Steve about the same time Tony kicks the back of Steve's knee.

There's a groan out of him and he whirls around on Tony, decking him hard. "What the hell was that for?!"

Tony manages to roll with the punch, but just enough that it doesn't knock him out. As he straightens up again, he isn't convinced Steve didn't manage to crack something.

"You're being an asshole, is what that was for. The least you can do is be an asshole at me. Let's go." And as he punches back, he hopes he doesn't break his hand. This is already going to be the most depressingly short fight.

Those eyes narrow at him and he wipes away at his mouth before narrowing eyes at Tony, "Answer me." Pay attention, Stark. Nothing you say is being heard.

"What do you--ooh. Huh." Tony squints at Steve, anger draining away as observation catches up.

Let's try this. He points at Steve, then at himself, then off to one side, away from prying eyes. Then turns his back and stalks away, really hoping this works and Steve comes after him.

That glare deepens a bit but he turns following Tony off to the side. Not sure what in the hell Stark wanted.

The short walk gives Tony a chance to think. It doesn't make much of a difference, but he's a little calmer when he turns around.

"You can't hear me, can you." It isn't a question, but he taps an ear when he says it. That's the first problem. The weird rage-thing can wait for a minute.
