the i n s o m n i a meme

It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do ( Read more... )

3 for an insomnia-d Doctor? noblexcompanion June 29 2012, 22:55:33 UTC
A sick Doctor was a scary thing indeed. He was always boasting about his superior Time Lordliness, and how he could work on minimal sleep, how illnesses that affected humans had no affect on him, and all other kinds of ways in which he was superior and special and beyond getting sick. Unfortunately, a shopping trip to Alvalex II had taken all those speeches and smushed them into dust leaving Donna with one very ill Time Lord.

Of course, she's taken to nursing the Doctor - it's the least she can do after almost getting him killed over shoes... She felt rather guilty too - but the shoes were really pretty and on sale, and supposed to be alien goo resistant...

Three hours ago she had given him the medication the screen in the medbay had instructed to. She had made him tea and chicken soup, washed his fevered brow and left him to sleep. She considered taking a short nap herself, but decided to peep in on the Doctor first, just to set her mind at rest.

Poor Donna! captoftardis June 29 2012, 23:05:30 UTC
Alvalex II - what would be considered the Galaxy's fashion capital of the universe... On on half, the other half was probably the world's biggest flea market complete with banjo music constantly playing in the background ( ... )

Okay... the empty bed was not what Donna had expected to see. She had expected to see the Doctor all snuggled down for the night getting some much needed sleep so she could go nap without feeling guilty. "Doctor? You better not be tinkering with electronics or having a post-midnight snack..."

She frowned and slipped into the room, scrunching up her nose. She tracked him down and felt even more guilty at the rather pathetic sight in front of her. Sure, she'd had her fair share of boyfriends with 'man flu' but this was completely different. "What the heck are you doing?"

Indeed! I'd say he'd make it up to her, but he took her shoe shopping captoftardis June 29 2012, 23:27:42 UTC
"Stomach... dying..." Those weren't the exact words he was looking for, but it got the message across. Forgive him, his brain is foggy as he dug through the drawer spilling half the contents out before turning around and continuing his search in another drawer.

Toothbrushes, a couple combs, floss, a tube of toothpaste were all thrown about before he wilted to the floor.

Such lovely shoes too! noblexcompanion June 29 2012, 23:31:26 UTC
"Come on, let's get you back to bed and I'll see what I can find." Medicating Time Lords was a serious business. One wrong drug and Donna could be responsible for causing the extinction of the entire race. The Lonesome George of Time Lords relying on her to fix him.

She crouched down and tugged his arms around her neck. "Sick on me and there will be trouble. Come on, Spaceman. Flopping about on the floor isn't going to do you any good!"

"Not... flopping." But it didn't help he was barely willing to help her stand him up. Finally he realized he was too heavy and got to his feet but still had his arms wrapped around her middle.

"I can do this..." He thought he was standing up when he really wasn't... "Leggo."

"Yeah right. I let go and you'll be on the floor again." For such a skinny thing he's actually a lot heavier than he looks, especially as a dead weight. Donna half walks, half drags him back to the bed.

"Right. Stay here. I'll find you something for the pain." Hopefully. She left the room and returned a good five minutes later, a vial of neon green liquid in one hand and some pills in the other. "Get these down you."

He cracks an eye open and startled. "What IS that?" He sits up and steals the vial from her hand, nearly falling over in the process.

Sitting on his knees he's looking at it with great curiosity and determination. "Where'd you find this?"

God, he could be such an over-excitable child at times. "It's some sort of anti-sick gloop from the medbay, and these?" She held out the tablets. "Painkillers."

"So come on, take your medicines and get back into bed." She pressed a hand to his forehead. Taking a Time Lord's temperature wasn't easy when you didn't really know what temperature they should be... but he definitely felt hotter than usual.

"Does it taste weird?" He holds the vial upside down and watches the goop slide down the glass.... very slowly. "Not viscous at all!" He flops over on his side look at it then the pills in her hand.

"Oh... too fast." He commented referring to his movement. If anything he felt a mix between intoxicated and down right loopy. "Got some water?" Fine, he'll do this, after a good pep talk.

She went a fetched him a glass of cool water from the bathroom. "Got water." No excuse now, Doctor. She handed it to him once she was sure he wouldn't spill it all over himself or the bed. "Here."

And like the good little nurse that she was, she fluffed his pillows, changing the sheet of the top one that felt clammy. "You sweating a lot?" She didn't think she'd ever seen the Doctor sweat before.

"A bit, yeah." He sat up long enough to drink some water and take the medicine she provided. The green goop? It was positively disgusting and practically clung to the walls of his mouth and throat as it went down.

Downing more water, he shook his head in disgust and flopped back down in the bed. "I feel so... delirious." He groaned as he threw an arm over his eyes.

Donna's nan always used to say the worse medicine tasted the better it worked, and for the most part Donna had found it to be true. Especially cough medicines. She hoped it was the same for weird alien gloop.

She frowned and went to the bathroom and returned with a bowl of cool water ad a wash cloth so she could cool the Doctor's face and neck. "You're not going to start hallucinating and hitting out are you?"

"No, don't think so... Did I do that earlier?" His memory was all a mess and during the peak of the fever, he was quite dellusional. There was no telling what he had said or done because of it.

She dunked the wash cloth into the cool water again, wrung it out and wiped it over his skin again. "No hallucinations so far. I'm hoping that's a good sign. He had been talking gibberish at one point though, which may or may not've been an hallucination, but no reason to worry him.

"Reckon you can sleep now?"
