Tony Stark | MCU | Tony/BruceaheartofsteelMay 27 2012, 04:15:46 UTC
Most of their nights are like this. Bouncing ideas off each other, telling each other about how smart they are and all sorts of things. No one else speaks English as good as Bruce does and it's the most refreshing thing for Tony to have someone that can talk to him on the same level. They're on equal ground when it comes to brains. These nightly recaps and brain storms are just as good as sex, at least to Tony it's that way.
Tonight though Tony's been a little off. His comments aren't as witty as they could be and he doesn't hit on Bruce at every chance. He's...caught up mostly, thinking about himself and Bruce. Mostly he's thinking about the control he has on himself...nothing compared to Bruce. He will never have Bruce's ability, calmness and peacefulness. It's in the middle of something very important that Bruce is saying that he zones out thinking about it all. There is a lag in the conversation where Tony is meant to answer.
"Sorry, Green Bean. What were you saying?" He looks back at Bruce, seeing him again instead of zoning out.

Being cautious was key. And yes, banner was a neat freak- why? Because anything that could puncture his skin and let a single drop of his blood contaminate any of their projects... Well, everyone would find themselves in a pickle of trouble. And wasn't clearing your work-space what you learned in chemistry 101? Yes.
The only people who knew of his clean habits were fury, stark and the occassional times where the captain would poke around the lab basically looking like he owned the place and made sure he and tony weren't fooling around. Seriously? That man needed some down time- he was still a popcicle to bruce. Just like the stiff soldier he is. But something about tony was a bit off. And tony spilt a bit of something, so immediately and meekly, the man cleaned the mess as he looked at tony, "is everything alright, tony?"
For the most part Tony kept clean, not nearly as clean as Bruce but that's just one of Bruce's odd little habits. Tony finds it cute like most of the man's habits.
The Captain was starting to annoy Tony. So what if they were fooling around? It's his damn lab in his damn house and if Tony wants to fool around with Bruce then he damn well will. He glared down at the spilt chemical. That's annoying. "Yeah. Just peachy, thanks." He grumbles.
Like all things, bruce thinks it's something he said or did- dare he say the other guy did. Not that he believed tony to be the type of guy to hold grudges against him- especially where it concerned hulk because he had no say in if he changed, but banner couldn't help himself from asking. As soon as he threw away the rag he used to clean up the others mess into the waste basket, he looked over at tony before then asking the inevitable question. "was it...something i did?"
That gets a look from Tony. Why did Bruce always think that? He shakes his head. "No. You've done nothing wrong, cutie." He tries for a joke to slide past this moment.
Bruce always bottled up his feelings, especially when it dealt with any type of anger- and yes, on occassion he would voice it out loud. But tony wasn't in danger of turning into a huge mass of green, so no- tony bottling it all up wasn't healthy for the playboy. The attempt, of starks, at flirting with him... well, this time he ignored it because he knew tony was only half-engaged in the comment. it was clear to bruce that the man needed to get something off his chest.
Blinking once, the doctor wrote down some calculations of their work before recreating the solution. Sitting down on a chair, banner fixed his glasses before then checking what he had under the microscope. After a moment, he looked back up at his friend and said, "you can tell me anything, you know." letting a moment of silence pass them by, bruce then added, "if somethings bothering you."
Tony isn't really bottling it up, he's thinking. Something he does a lot and a lot of the time it gets him in trouble. Sometimes it takes him to a dark place where he thinks to much and is way to lonely for a playboy.
Tony checked the calculations and results. He watches Bruce with the microscope and is very turned on by the sight so he pulls his eyes away. "Nothing's bothering me." A lie but Tony's made up worse lies. "I know, Jolly Green Giant."
Bruce knows loneliness- ever since the accident of gama rays, being alone was all he had going for himself. Any intimate relationships were always avoided after his last girlfriend- afraid that his heart would skyrocket and cause trouble for anything in his vicinity. Spending years and years alone had prepared him to control the hulk somewhat. but it was a very lonely life he lead. Sometimes he wished there was someone to aid him- yes, his ex had tried everything in her will to help but it wasn't enough.
In tony's case, bruce was going to let the other sort out his thoughts, because really that was the only thing he could do at the moment. He didn't want to pry, since it was so obvious the other didn't wish to speak of it- whatever it may be. "that's really inaccurate. In no way am I 'jolly'. " he took off his glasses, doing his own thinking.
Tony had just always been alone. His parents had been caught up in their own lives while Tony worked his way through his own. Then at school he hardly made friends because of the age difference. Then there had been Rhodey and he's great and all but since coming back from captivity he's been less and less in Tony's life. Maybe it was more like 'since closing down Stark's weapon manufacturing' that Rhodey had started to drift away. Then there was Pepper...Tony had nothing bad against her, he even loves her but she's not right for him. Tony needs more from a relationship. More than what's normal any way.
He tries to shift back into science mod and say something clever back to Bruce. Nothing really comes to him so he just spouts off the first thing he can manage. "I could mane you jolly..." He mumbles as he looks into the microscope. It's awful and lame and even more of an indication that Tony isn't himself.
Bruce watches the other as he says that. "what?" was the only thing the doctor could manage. What did tony mean by that? How was he going to make him jolly? The notion that banner got, was impossible. He did have a regular life before, and to tell you the truth... He missed being normal, sometimes bruce forgets what it's like to love again. And yet.. He wasn't sure it was possible- too many complications such as bringing danger upon tony. But then again, he couldn't get ahead of himself in just assuming stark meant any intimate relationship.
Tony looks up at the 'what' and shakes his head. "Nothing." He mumbles. "Was a joke, Banner." Although Tony would love a chance to rip off Bruce's clothes and go to town on him, but he's not sure if Bruce would be okay with that so he just stays away from those thoughts. "Did you record this data?"
The doctor looks taken aback- again, tony decides to discard it as nothing. And bruce knew it most definately to be so much more than nothing. Tony was a very stubborn man. "alright, if you say so." Waking him up from his thoughts, the doctor answered, "um.. Yes." putting on his glasses, he made one more calculation before stating, while placing a beaker in its original spot, "tony, if you need me, i'll be meditating in the living room." giving the other a second glance, he nodded softly as he started for his daily routine. He had held off on it for far too long.
It's very much not nothing. He nods though and watches Bruce leave. It makes him a little sad that his science bro is gone but he'll live. Tony sits for a couple minutes thinking again before he gets up and leaves the lab a mess. Coming into the living room he shouts. "How the hell are you so controlled?" That's the question behind all the earlier thoughts. Now Tony knows it's not drugs so what the hell could it be? Magic? Maybe.
He had hoped that by leaving the other to himself, it would eventually bring the other to him. Fifteen minutes of sitting straight, with either palms upon his knees and eyes forever closed, bruce had known already that his friend was in the room he had occupied. At first, he made no move to indicate he knew tony's presence, but after a good minute or two he then said without breaking his concentration, "practice. And patience. As well as meditating daily alone for a number of years. "
Tony is easy to figure out when he's like this, but that doesn't stop him from glaring badly. He knew Bruce knew he'd come to him. That pissed him off. "No, really." He comes even more into the room. "You're so...controlled. I can't imagine it and you're saying that it's because you sit around." Tony isn't buy it.
He opened his eyes before then focusing on the other. Bruce knew now that he had to talk seriously to the curious man and in order to do that, the doctor had to tell the man his life's story. "tony... " he started before then breathing lightly. "i had a normal life, tony. But one little lab accident turned me into that other guy. After that, my ex's father- he was the top military man, got into our business and for a total of five years, i was on the run. I never felt safe enough to stay in one place for long. Loneliness became second nature to me. I had tried to make an antidote for myself but it never panned out- the mutation would dominate any cure i would create. So within that time and many other years after, i studied the art of meditation. It's the only thing i know how to do in not turning into that... That monster." of course he wasn't telling tony of his more depressing nature, but well.. He looked up at the other, warily. He knew he said too much and bruce wasn't the social type.
