The "I Love You" Meme

They've just been uttered - those 3 little words that can change everything. But why did were they said? Post below with your character name/canon/preference if open to smut in the subject line. Responder rolls using random.org to determine whether it’s (1) the truth or (2) a lie, then rolls again to determine why they said it. Then let the good times (or the deception) roll!

Reasons:

Telling the Truth:

1.  One of you is dying. It’s your last chance to tell them how you really feel.
2.  One of you is leaving and might not come back. Like in number one, this might be your last chance!
3.  It’s the perfect time and place. You’ve been waiting for just the right time to tell them how you feel. Maybe you’ve had a crush on them forever, or you’ve been dating and never had the guts to say the words. Your time has arrived.
4.  To stop them from being with someone else.  You’re carrying a torch, and the only way to stop from losing them forever is to declare your love.
5.  Freudian slip, aka the “L-bomb”. Maybe it slips out in conversation - maybe it comes out during sex. However it happened, it was an accident. Now what?
6.  You/they are pregnant.  It was all fun and games until baby made three. But it has made you realize how much you actually love them.
7.  They just broke up with you. Whatever the reason, telling them you love them might just get them to take you back.

Lying:

1.  To get them into bed. You wanna nail ‘em... this is self-explanatory.
2.  To make them feel better. They need cheered up.  Whether you meant to say it or not, you did, and it’s not true.
3.  They said it first. You said it back. Was it guilt, or instinct? Either way, you don’t actually mean it.
4.  They’re leaving and probably won’t come back. What’s the harm in a little white lie if you’re never going to see them again?
5.  You’re trying to hide that you’re cheating. Why is there lipstick on my collar? Just trying out some colors since I was shopping for you and I love you!
6.  You want them to have your baby/you want to have their baby.  You really, really want a kid. Dropping the “L” bomb might just get it for you.
7.  Manipulation.  You want them to do something for you, or say something in particular, or just generally be at your beck and call. It all starts with making them believe you love them.
