Somehow, Alaric had talked Greg into going to the Scotland Moors with him. Of course, he hadn't told the other man why he wanted to go there. How do you tell someone that werewolves were real, and you were hunting them in order to get information? Instead, he simply told him he wanted to learn the history of the place by actually visiting it.

The trip was going well until the car he'd rented broke down. Now, they were stuck in the middle of the foggy moors with only a tent, some supplies, and each other.

"Do you want to make camp in the car, or out in that field over there?" he asked.

works for me! bestofabadlot February 23 2012, 12:41:06 UTC
Greg wasn’t too sure of why he’d accepted Alaric’s proposition to go camping in the moors of Scotland together. He liked camping, though he rarely indulged, but it wasn’t really the right season to sleep out in the open, especially in bloody Scotland. Still, in the end, the promise of historical sight-seeing and Alaric’s disarmingly charming smile (mostly) had convinced him to agree.

And it hadn’t been so bad, truly, until their bloody car broke down, leaving them stranded in the middle of nowhere. Greg sighed. And no signal, either. “Definitely outside. Car’s too small to sleep in”, he replied, good-naturedly enough considering the situation, stepping out of the car and into a puddle of mud, cursing.

Alaric was glad Greg had decided to sleep outside. The car was too small, and he didn't like small spaces. Nodding, he stepped out and groaned when he saw he'd parked in the mud. "Sorry," he muttered.

Going to the trunk, he opened it before getting the tent and their bags out. He then looked around, trying to see where they could set up camp.

"Do you think the tent will stay up over there?" he asked as he pointed toward a clearing.

I know nothing about camping, yay bestofabadlot February 26 2012, 01:26:24 UTC
Lestrade made a face and cursed some more under his breath, though he wasn't really annoyed with Alaric as much as with the stupid situation they were in. “It's fine. The joy of camping,” he drawled, trying to lighten the mood. This wasn't so bad, after all. Better make the best of it.

“If we don't set the opening facing the wind, yeah, I think it would,” he decided, plodding towards Alaric to help with the tent and bags, setting off towards the point the man had pointed.

I've been camping once...in a cabin ;) callmeric February 27 2012, 18:38:29 UTC
Alaric nodded in agreement. They would have to set the tent up so it didn't blow over. With the tent bag in hand. he moved over to the clearing and stood ther for a moment, trying to decide the best spot.

"I think I'll set it up in that corner over there. It doesn't seem like the wind is blowing too hard there," he said as he moved over to the furthest corner and emptied the bag of its contents.

Greg was content to just follow, not even trying to pretend that he knew that much about the matter, carrying his own set of bags to the spot Alaric chose at length. He looked at the tangled mess the tent made on the ground. “Is there a manual, or something?” He chuckled, shaking his head. “Or are we supposed to pretend to be real men, and do it all instinctive-like?”

No problem! Went through the same thing back in November and know how much it sucks. callmeric March 7 2012, 16:28:51 UTC
When he asked about the manual, Alaric furrowed his brow while hoping there was one. He'd been a Boy Scout when he was a kid, but tents had changed a lot since then. "I hope so," he murmured.

He set the bag down and got on his knees beside it. There was still a few slivers of light coming through the fog so he was able to find the instruction sheet. With a grin, he pulled it out and unfolded it on the ground, using a rock to hold it down.

"Did we bring any lanterns? I think they might be better than using a flashlight."

Greg chuckled, shaking his head and rubbing his face. “I'm reconsidering sleeping in the car,” he teased, grinning when Alaric managed to find the instruction sheet. “Well, hurray,” he retorted dryly, kneeling next to him in the damp grass. “'m afraid not. We'll have to make do with the flashlight.”

He fumbled a bit with the contents of his bag, getting one out of it and turning it on, studying the sheet with his eyebrows furrowed. “Maybe I'll regret saying that, but that... doesn't sound too tricky?” he asked, hopefully.

Alaric sighed when he said all he had was a flashlight. He supposed they'd have to do and he shifted a bit when Greg got on the ground beside him. He then glanced down at the directions and nodded. "Not at all. I guess they make it easy for us morons," he said with a small laugh.

He reached a hand into the bag and started to take everything out, setting them in the order he needed them. "Okay. So we need to drive these steel pegs onto the ground and then build the tent so we can hook it on them. That shouldn't be too hard."

Greg merely grinned along, nudging Alaric in the ribs and muttering something that sound like 'speak for yourself...' He lit up the instructions as best as he could with the flashlight and then set out to get the steel pegs into the ground, which was soggy enough to make it easy, perhaps too easy, making him wonder whether it would actually hold. He sighed but went for it, helping Alaric to fix the ropes that would support the tent to them and then hoist it up.
