no10 - pregnancy insecurity?allforhumanityFebruary 10 2012, 16:33:36 UTC
[he was late again tonight. He'd been throwing himself into work lately and at the back of his mind - yeah. Felt like he had been sort of neglecting Maddie. But this was for her, for them.
Despite her assurances, Dex worried.
He wanted to save money and earn enough to keep them more than just afloat. He thought he was just being perpared...]
[2 in the morning, and Maddie is still awake. Awake - and curled up in the big armchair and sniffling. She can't help it ... she's always naturally been a worrier, but it's come out in full force ever since finding out about the pregnancy.
She's only just 21 ... and she and Dex hadn't been together very long before she got pregnant ... and sometimes she thinks that he stays because he thinks he has to, because how could he truly love her in such a short time?
And usually, she's able to quell those thoughts, and those fears, and tell herself that she's being irrational, but ...
All the time he's spent away recently has made her worry more. What if he's inadvertently found someone else? What if he doesn't want her, or want to be a father and feels trapped and is looking for a way out?
[Dex made his way to the bedroom, shedding his jacket by the door, easy access as always. He had put himself on-call for more jobs out of town too, so it was all just a little trying on both of them. As far as he saw it, though, they were okay.. their relationship would hold out. It had to. They had so much to look forward to.
He paused, leaning to the doorframe as he called out softly -] Heh, caught ya.. [he chuckled] You know.. sitting up in the dark isn't good for you, Maddie. [he crossed over to her]
[Most times, Maddie believes that. Sometimes ... that one little seed of doubt gets planted, and takes root deep in her mind, sprouting quickly. One more night of sleeping without him in bed and she just ... lost all rational thinking.]
[She should just ... be grateful that he's home, finally. She should ... take his hand, and welcome him back, and allow him to take her to bed, and fall asleep nestled in his arms. She should ... ]
[he pauses in pulling his shirt over his chest, then tugs it up to face her, frowning. Her question is a little odd to him because there can only be one answer-] You know where I was...
[slipping his belt off, he shrugged, laying out beside her on his stomach, leaning up on his elbows] Work. I'm sorry I was late, baby.. I know it bothers you.
Hey - [his eyes widen and he leans up to take her face in his hands] Whoa, whoa... what's all this? [he's genuinely shocked here..] What the - is that what you've been - jeez, Maddie. [he shakes his head, forehead touching hers] You think I'd do that to you?
[She wants so much to just ... hold on tight and never let go] I don't think you would do it on purpose. But I know we're ... really rushing into things here, and I just ... I don't want to force you to stay.
[She kisses back, deep, desperately, and it's then that she lets the tears slip down her cheeks] Love you so, so much. Don't know what I'd do without you.
[She shakes her head, and lifts her hand to wipe the tears from her eyes] It's just - you've been doing that a lot lately. I - I don't mean to worry, but ... God, Dex ... I'm just so scared.

Oh, God, the thought could make her throw up.]

Now. Is this 'cause I came back late? I'll explain if you want to, ya know. Jus'... [his eyes are a little dark, but sad]
Don't think that again, alright? I'd never do that to you... [another brief kiss] Ever.
