[It isn't their usual circle. Which is nice, really. There aren't evening gowns and tuxedos and that drawling lag of conversation. There's Keystone and actual laughter and a lack of the properly violent pretension that High Society is always drenched in.
And there's ridiculous games.
Darren might have expected more from Vassar; certainly more from Eileen. But his sister had led the charge to shove him into the closet. At least she had shoved him in with someone he knew well enough that the seven minute wouldn't end in the entire awkwardness of 'oh... no, dear, I don't date college girls so much as Russian ballerinas and Spanish supermodels.' His smile is entirely amused as he leans back against the door.]
I KNOW. SO SHOCKING. :OmoonofjupiterNovember 12 2011, 05:20:31 UTC
[It's a lovely change. Not that Darren doesn't look fabulous in a tuxedo or that Isobel doesn't thoroughly enjoy putting on violet silk Chanel, but there's something to be said for more casual sorts of things. She hasn't been to a kegger since he Columbia ones all the Barnard girls flocked to on weekends.
Seems like they do it the same way in Poughkeepsie.
She raises an eyebrow at Darren when he speaks and leans against the wall. It is a closet, so that still doesn't leave much space between them. Just enough to pretend they're just very good friends who flirt constantly.]
Oh, I don't know. About a year younger than we actually are? Is Cornell such a distant memory already, darling?
Ah, is this why the trust fund sent me to Ithaca? [An amused snap of his fingers accompanies the quirk of his lips.] Damn, and here I spent all that time studying.
[Which has meant a lot of catching up was needed post-graduation. "Grown up" parties Darren knows backwards to forwards to slipping out after dawn, all well-documented by obtrusive flashbulbs. But the college party, the childish bit of fun? It had never come up during his pushing through college in three years, and Eileen was hardly a reliable source of information on the matter.
Which means he has every excuse to hold out a hand across the small space between them.]
Guide me, dear. I'm ever so afraid I'll do something wrong.
So, what does Athena do when things are awkwardly silent? She says the first thing that comes to her mind.] I do think I owe you a rather large amount of Scotch. [You remember that last encounter, right? She only vaguely does so, but what she remembers is talking to him (and others)... And the Scotch he had offered her. Lots of it.]

How old are we meant to be, exactly?
