I--and my knitting needles--have been busy. I have been knitting nearly every day (even on vacation!), trying to fulfill the orders for hats and scarves I've been commissioned to make, plus create all the Christmas presents I want to give. Everything is done now, just in time for Christmas. It's a good thing I love knitting so much!
Following is a gallery of some of my latest projects. It has way more pictures of me and yarn than you'll probably ever want to see.
Rupert and Ruby
This hat (Ruby) and scarf (Rupert) set was made for someone to give as a Christmas gift. I used royal red Red Heart Light & Lofty yarn.
As you can see, I wasn't quite done with this scarf at the time the picture was taken, haha. I used size 15 needles for the scarf (as you can see there) and for the hat sizes 11 (for ribbing) and 13.
Ruby
A close up of Ruby. I loved her and wanted to keep her!
Eve
This scarf was made for my friend Bethany T. It was made with a mixture of acrylic pink yarn (which isn't really visible) and some Frolic fur. I was originally going to use just the fur, but it was too thin and slippery to use alone. The acrylic yarn helped give the project sturdiness.
I think I used size 13 needles.
Eve
Dear Eve sitting in the branches of my pine tree.
Eve
A close up of Eve. So furry!
Evelyn and Evie
Evelyn (scarf) and Evie (hat) were also made with acrylic pink yarn with Frolic fur. The scarf had nice, feathery fringe of the Frolic fur alone.
The hat was probably made on size 11 (ribbing) and 13 needles. The scarf was probably made on size 13 needles.
Evelyn
Evelyn sitting pretty.
Both Evie and Evelyn were made for a friend to give as Christmas gifts.
Dennis and Denise
Dennis (hat) and Denise (scarf) were made for a friend to give as Christmas gifts. The friend wanted something blue, bulky, and fun.
I chose to make a big pompon for the top of the hat to emphasize the fun factor. I also made long, swishy fringe for the scarf.
The scarf was knit on size 15 needles. The hat was knit on size 11 (ribbing) and 13 needles.
Denise
Both hat and scarf were made with Homespun brand yarn.
Colin
I made Colin for my friend Gabrielle. After I made him (and before I gave him to her), she told me she'd just love to have a blue scarf for Christmas. I had unknowingly made her just the perfect gift! :-)
I used size 17 needles (I think).
Colin
Colin is so soft! I made him from blue Adora yarn (from Big Lots) and recycled chenille from a sweater I unraveled. It's a happy combination!
Colin
I love dear, fluffy Colin and am glad to know he's going to a good home.
Cabled hat and scarf
Finally a project for myself! I used Angel Hair yarn (from Joanns) to make these lovely set.
I used size 11 needles for both the scarf and hat.
Cabled hat and scarf
Instead of doing normal p1-k2-p1 ribbing, I did a mini cabled ribbing by knitting the second knit stitch before the first knit stitch. I saw the stitch in a book, decided to try it, and fell in love with it. I love the twisted look it made!
Cabled scarf
Here is a close up of the scarf. It's so warm, thick, and soft. Love it!
Cabled scarf
The underside of the scarf looks like normal ribbing (see the top part in the picture) while the front side of the scarf looks cabled (see the bottom part in the picture). Both sides have a great look.
Cabled hat
The hat ended up being too big when I finished it, so I cinched in the hat about an inch from the bottom. It ended up making the hat fit perfectly and have a cute, flared brim.
Cabled hat
Angel Hair is a thick roving-like yarn combined with a thin, very soft furry strand. It's like two yarns in one.
Sandy
Sandy sells seashells by the seashore. This is a beach-inspired scarf I made for my friend Brianne.
The fringe is uneven to create a wind-blown beachy effect.
I used size 13 needles.
Sandy
Sandy has a unique texture and is really fun to wear.
Sandy
I combined two yarns: recycled chenille and multi-colored Fabu French Yarn. Fabu is a bit course by itself, but combined with the softness of chenille, it makes for a sturdy and comfortable scarf.
Gwendolyn
I made Gwendolyn for my friend Valerie. Gwendolyn is made with Bernat Soft Boucle I got from Michaels. It's soft, practical, and when knit on size 15 needles, creates a nice, flexible scarf.
Gwendolyn
Gwendolyn is a deeper red--more like a burgandy--than is pictured here.
Gwendolyn
Ah, soft!
Emmy
Emmy was made for my little friend Abby Lynn. Emmy is made from sparkle yarn acquired at Big Lots.
I used size 15 needles.
Emmy
Emmy is both soft and fun!
Emmy
With so many colors, Emmy can go with most anything.
Pink and gray wool striped scarf
Here is the first striped scarf I made myself. Instead of starting a new strand for each stripe (too much work!), I twisted each color, when not being used, up the side of the scarf. It worked well!
I knit this on size 10 needles.
Pink and gray wool striped scarf
I used a combination of pink wool I bought in Ketchum and gray Wool Ease.
Pink and gray wool striped scarf
It a light and soft scarf.
Black and white boa
This scarf is made with Hopla yarn. I knit it vertically on size 17 circular needles.
Black and white boa
Hopla yarn is a combination of several different types of yarn twisted together. It made it a little difficult to knit with, but I loved the results.
Black and white boa
It turned out soft and fuzzy.
Recycled ribbon
::shriek:: What IS this?! It's a horrible, disgusting sweater from a thrift store, purchased for $1.50. Is such a gag-worthy sweater worth that much? You betcha!
It was made of two colors of ribbon yarn that I unraveled into a bunch of skeins. The sweater looked SO much better when taken apart.
Candace
Remember that horrible sweater in the last picture? Here it is again...in a different form. Isn't it MUCH improved?
This is Candace. Candace was made for Abigail and is made of Adora yarn (from Big Lots) mixed with the darker pink of the recycled ribbon A very pretty and sturdy combination!
Candace
I knit Candace on size 15 needles.
Candace
So soft and beautiful...!
Don't forget! I am more than happy to knit projects for you or your loved ones. I'm getting quite efficient at both hats and scarves, but I can make other things too. If you have something in mind, just ask, and I'll see what I can do! My prices are fairly reasonable. :-)
