Whoa! Poor tree :-( I'm glad nothing more serious was damaged (like people). Very exciting though.
I hope that Bill did something while speaking with the police. You're supposed to be doing something... like unloading boxes from a truck or something (ala Saturday Night Live Law & Order acting class skit from 2007). The only rule "is never stop moving."
