NBC just said to Obama that this is like a time of war, and in times of war Presidents ask for sacrifices, and so why hasn't he asked for sacrifice from Americans

This is like a time of war? Similar to, but not exactly like, having members of our military in active combat in two different countries, right? Good thing that's not happening.
And why hasn't he asked for sacrifices yet? He must know that we cannot make sacrifices until The One specifically asks us to. If The One wasn't incapable of error, I would say that this was a pretty big oversight on his part.
But a least we're not actually in a time of war, because that would be bad.
"QUESTION: Thank you, Mr. President. Some have compared this financial crisis to a war. And in times of war, past presidents have called for some form of sacrifice. Some of your programs, whether for Main Street or Wall Street, have actually cushioned the blow for those that were irresponsible during this -- during this economic period of prosperity or supposed prosperity that you were talking about. Why, given this new era of responsiblity that you're asking for, why haven't you asked for something specific that the public should be sacrificing to participate in this economic recovery?"
In other words, as I read it, "Why haven't you tried to change even MORE than the current complete overhaul of the nation, and we should all thank you for not taking from the selfish middle class for the good of the people."
That sounds just as condescending. This "new" era of responsibility? You mean like the responsibility Geithner showed when he told Congress yesterday that something or other had been done by "your government"? That new era of responsibility?
Seriously, this entire question is insulting and its sole purpose is so that Barry can tell us how awesome he is that he's saving us from having to make sacrifices.
Also, int he interest of full disclosure, I'm iffy on the "time of war" thing. I won't tolerate criticism of the troops, obviously.
The situation irks me, though, as Bush and Congress should have formerly declared war. Authorizing force allowed wartime behavior, but is different than a declaration of war. Their failure has caused a lot of unnecessary grief.
