Piracy Then and Now
Some interesting history on piracy.
I have four thoughts on this:
1) The Saudis are not our friends. If they don't obtain security for something this valuable, the only explanation is that a rise in the price of oil is what they want. We should not forget they are not our friends.
2) Is it time for modern civilization to fall? When drug addled third worlders can hop a motorboat and put at risk the kind of environmental and financial damage of destroying a supertanker, what does it say for the "civilized" world's ability to protect itself. (As themeshuggener points out, this was a large error on my part.) The civilized world's will to protect itself.
3) The UN, let us all remember, accomplishes nothing but corruption and is a joke. We want to sign on to LOST when THIS is something they allow?
4) The only reason terrorists haven't crippled the modern world is that they are incompetent or stupid. We should be profoundly thankful for Bush's efforts fighting them, and for their incompetency post 9/11.

Genius, Thy Name is Obama by Ann Coulter
A look at George W Bush's uniting when he was a brand new President. Worth a read. Yet more history lost to the Liberal Pravda media, and Liberal academia, narrative.

Time to Reassess the Iraq War?
"President-elect Barack Obama, on '60 Minutes,' defended the financial bailout package.
Yes, said Obama, the economy continues to suffer, but 'I think the part of the way to think about it is things could be worse. … So part of what we have to measure against is what didn't happen and not just what has happened.'
Interesting. Why not apply the 'what didn't happen' standard to the unpopular Iraq war?"
For or against the Iraq War, this is worth consideration. I remain on the fence. I think the biggest problem was the execution. What has been accomplished in 8 years could have been in 4 or less had we not carried out the incredibly boneheaded nomad suppression strategy. Success in 4 would have changed most American's opinions.
One thing I do know is this:
A year or two ago Al-Qaeda put out a statement, and that statement involved the fight in Iraq. They just put out a statement. That statement ignored Iraq. They lost. They know it. So do all their would be recruits. Do with that what you will.

A suggestion for Big Three and UAW (updated)
I'm not saying I back this, but the first suggestion could make for some comedy gold.

NRO Editorial: Detroit DIP
"We have a good, proven process for dealing with companies that have short-term cash-flow problems and valuable underlying assets, and that process is called bankruptcy."

This, my friends, is one excellent example of why the culture war matters:
Failure Is Not an Option, Today it seems the grossly incompetent and inefficient must be preserved at all costs.
"Americans are creating a therapeutic society in which none of us need fail. No one loses in T-ball anymore. Schools honor a dozen valedictorians. In universities, a 'C' passing grade is now the understood kinder and gentler version of the old and now-rare 'F.'
Our culture forgot that there was once a utility in failure. Failing reminded us of what works and what doesn’t - and how we must learn to avoid the latter. Instead, in our new economic purgatory, no firm, company, state, city, or individual ever quite goes to financial heaven or hell. A Bear Stearns or Chrysler neither succeeds nor fails but just sort of endlessly exists."

Even Breathalyzers Are Racist
"According to the shyster, 'research shows that the lung capacity of a black man is 3 percent smaller than a white man and, therefore, black men's test results vary from the sobriety standard set by the device'."
This is an example of why the one concentration camp, witch hunt, Inquisition atmosphere I might accept would be the one that rounds up lawyers and judges. Sorry, but for the greater good we have to start fresh.
In our legal system today there seems to be no method of punishing or removing the ridiculous, the fraudulent, the awful, and those members within it who continually commit such acts. Our legal system is being perverted to suit a far Left tyranny of the minority agenda. Cases are accepted today that I couldn't imagine would have ever seen the light of day just a few decades ago. Now police will not only avoid pulling over blacks becauise of false accusations of profiling. Now they will have to give them bonus points on DUI's, giving blacks an out on an oppressive system that shouldn't exist in the first place. Soon everything that isn't mandatory will be forbidden.

Our idiot media:
Couric Pushes Lieberman to Atone for Attacking Obama
"“You said, on whether Senator Obama is a Marxist, you said quote: 'It's a good question to ask.' Are you sorry you said that?”"
This is a journalist? She sounds like somebody's mom, only instead of dealing with a lie about stealing a cookie, she's forcing the worship of her Messiah.
"Are you sorry? Are you? Admit your sorrow and beg forgiveness before The One."
As long as this twit remains employed without an outcry against her the entire field of journalism deserves no respect.

Talk about an hilarious Freudian slip.
Wash Post’s Milbank Compares Obama Team to the North Vietnamese?
"Host Campbell Brown asked Milbank about the 'backlog of at least 2,000 pardon applications' to the Bush administration before the president leaves office early next year, and he replied, 'Yeah -- it sort of has the feeling of the last helicopter off the embassy roof in Saigon.'"
I wonder if clown boy knows what he implied. Good for him for an approach to accuracy, though.

And now in today's militant alphabetsexual/gay hate watch:
This is from an entertainment web site I frequent that's very openly and constantly pro-gay. They are well past unreadable at this point, having gone nuts in their rabid hatred of McCain/Palin pre-election. I checked it yesterday and found this worth posting as a current event. It's amusing in its open intolerance.
Seth Meyers gay SNL damage control interview
"The point isn't that the writing was mean-spirited; it's that it's lazy, and dated, and relies on gayness as a punchline unto itself." Take out the gay and this describes 90% of SNL, 99% of the comedy about Republicans, all of which the site openly cheered.
"And while we're sure some of their best writers are gay, you know what might help even more? How about convincing Lorne Michaels to hire his first openly gay SNL cast member?"
It is never enough. Ever. Roughly 6% of the population is gay. Half the population would think skits that can only show gay men as proud and virtuous pillars of greatness are inaccurate and offensive, and would tune out. It doesn't matter to the militants. SNL will bow down to "correct" this. It is only funny when Liberals say so.

eHarmony forced to offer same-sex dating services; Update: And now, a class-action lawsuit
Liberal "tolerance." Set up their own site? No. Force a private company to perform a service not in their guidelines and the owners find repugnant? You bet. This was pure extortion to force an agenda. Tolerance is not enough. ALL MUST EMBRACE homosexuality, or suffer.
This is another example of the joke that is our legal system. They settled because they thought they might lose.
And what did compromise get eHarmony?
"Update 4pm Eastern 11/20. Geez. Now, a California judge has approved a class-action lawsuit by gays against eHarmony."
There is an agenda. It is an agenda of hatred and intolerance. The hatred and intolerance of Liberals.

And guess what? It's still not enough.
Outrageous eHarmony Verdict Not Sufficiently Extreme for DailyKos
"I'm just so frankly [expletive deleted] disgusted with these half-assed, [expletive deleted] compromises that the LGBT folks are supposed to swallow."
You see? There is no such thing as compromise with the Left, because the extreme runs it. There is only capitulation.
