Man vs Wild, Footloose, Star Trek, Rosie

I very much enjoy the show Man vs Wild on Discovery. Someone has compiled video they call the Manliest of moments from the manliest of men, Bear Grylls. Some of this is just gross. But as Grylls says, survival often depends on doing things many wouldn't be willing to do. The zebra is my personal favorite ( Read more... )

I have very mixed feelings on Bear's show. One the one hand, watching what he does is awesome. On the other, a goodly portion of what he does would kill someone not trained by the SAS.

just rename it 101 ways to die and I'd be good. ;)

How do you figure?

Except that most lack the strength to do some of the climbing he does, I don't see what he's done that's that extreme.

admittedly most of my problems came from the pilot, "ultimate survival". some of the more spectacular stupidity was running hell bent through the woods in the middle of the night from a bear, floating down a river as a method of trasportation, and rappelling off a cliff with paracord.
It would be one thing if it were "I'm stuck in this situation, here's how I survive it", but it wasn't presented that way. As such, it gives the impression these are smart things to do when in all likelyhood they'll get you killed.

take the zebra, for example. Even if the meat was fresh, plenty of things in raw meat can kill you, or at least make you sick enough that in a real survival situation you'd die from another cause. But because it looks cooler to eat raw (and making a fire under primitive conditions isn't exciting television), he does that.

Entertaining TV, just don't try most of his suggestions. :)

Hm. Good, but depressing, to know.

I was all psyched to eat me some raw zebra. :(

Rosie O'Donnell. I know she has no class--why do I keep feeling surprised when she acts up? [Rolls her eyes]
