Firefly/Serenity -- fanboy yapping + pretty pics
In preparation for the movie Serenity, now in theaters, I rewatched the series Firefly. Serenity, BTW, is opening up to quite good reviews and was second at the box office only to that feminist PC bullshit crapfest Flight Plan.
The Air Marshall and the flight attendant did it.* The Muslim hijacker-looking guys are actually very nice, and you learn all about prejudice and everyone hugs. I just saved you ten bucks and two hours. Now see Serenity.
If you enjoy Scifi, not seeing the series makes you dumb. I recalled liking it alot but then forgot about it when Fox utterly fucked it over. Part of the reason I was only semi-fond was because Fox made them show it out of order. That was a travesty that really screwed the series.
Anyway...
Did you like Star Trek (TNG, DS9, VOY)? (If you liked Voyager you're an idiot and need not read further.) Better than Star Trek. Why? Because it has fleshed-out characters with actual lives and interests and flaws, who evolve.
Better than Farscape. The characters and actions are realistic and gritty, unlike that cartoon mayhem.
Andromeda - If you liked Andromeda get off my internet, you drooling monkey. SHOO! No talking. GIT!
Stargate (SG1 or Atl) - While they're cute and some entertainment, they don't compare, at least not if Firefly had a nine year run at this quality.
Battlestar Galactica - I will say as good as, but for different reasons. I like BSG but some of what it doesn't explain annoyes me.
Babylon 5. Better than? No. I wept at series' end. But if Firefly had maintained it's quality for five years, as B5 had, it might have come second.
Moral? Go out and buy or borrow Firefly on DVD RIGHT NOW. Or get it through some other means if you must.

Watch it as it should have aired instead of how Fox fucked it. Bask in its greatness. Then see Serenity ASAP.
