I am sick to death of politicians saying that their budget problems mean they have to fire teachers, cops and firefighters. "Oh no, we're out of money. I guess there's no safety or learning for your kids." Really? Every single administrator and miscellaneous paper pusher is indispensable? That's the argument? Lord knows every time I call into or walk through a government building I see nothing but efficient, vital employees hard at work. Meanwhile, the people who run in to burning buildings, those who pull us out of our wrecked vehicle and every day face the worst of society so we don't have to, and those entrusted to supervise and educate our children eight hours a day are first on the chopping block.
What really infuriates me about this lie from politicians is that the union management watches it all in silence or support. If I realize the charade why do they quietly watch their members suffer? Adding to the insult is that union workers have nothing to say about what their management does to them. Are they really such ignorant sheep or such shills?
Anyway... this brings me to this...
TPS teacher who watched Obama sign bill is laid off "As Toledo Public Schools teacher Amanda VanNess stood in the Oval Office and watched President Obama sign an education stimulus bill, she already knew she'd lost her teaching job back home to budget cuts and low seniority.
The $26 billion stimulus bill, designed to save 160,000 teacher and other government jobs across the nation, couldn't save her position at Pickett Elementary."
It wasn't designed for that purpose. None of the "stimulus" is.
"TPS hasn't spent a dollar of the $7.6 million in teacher rehire money it received from the Aug. 10 bill, opting instead to save it for next school year to rehire or retain a myriad school employees - probably not teachers.
The legislation allows the one-time money to be spent that way over the two school years.
The hard-fought federal legislation was sold as a way for school districts to call back laid-off teachers or to save others from losing jobs."
There were no "others" standing behind the ESiC at that signing as part of the sales pitch. How is money (I believe appr. 41% of which the federal government must borrow) spent over two years called "stimulus"?
"To set up the bill signing in the Oval Office, the American Federation of Teachers contacted local union President Fran Lawrence and asked if she knew of a Toledo teacher who could come to Washington to stand with the President."
The American Federation of Teachers asked an unemployed teacher to be a prop to sell spending taxpayer money for teachers that didn't save her job, won't be spent for two years, and probably won't go to teachers. Way to go union management! Union members must be so proud.
And let's not forget the never ending genius of Barry and the Democrat regime spending our grandchildren's money for failure after failure. Thanks Democrats!
