Fifteen indoor cats is too many by at least 12. I have 3 indoor cats and a dog. We live in the woods so if they went outside they'd get eaten by cayotes or cougar or bear, so they have to stay inside.
We have 3 cat boxes in our downstairs bathroom with the good clumping cat litter and my husband cleans it every day at least once. I only have to do cat box duty when hubby is out of town overnight.
Your brother owes you big time. How many boxes does he have for 15 cats?
My mom saw we had 3 boxes and 3 cats and said, 'how do they know which box is theirs?'
Seriously, they just use whichever box they want. LOL But having that many boxes makes sure they never shit or piss on the floor.
They only have 3 boxes, and use oil dry gravel for litter. (Cheap bastard!) It's totally disgusting. My mom and I both go down there and it takes us an hour every day to feed, water, and clean up their mess.
They also have two outside cats that we have to feed and water too, but at least thats not so gross.
Our two cats come and go as they please and they do have a box that they share but the only time they ever go on the floor is whenever someone is using the bathroom (where their pan is) and they can't get to it. I can't blame the oldest cat for that. She's 13 years old and can't hold it anymore. But she does try.
I know my brother is a man and most of the time men aren't so good at taking care of house cleaning and his girlfriend works but thier house looks like a tornado hit it. I don't even want to go in there.
Hmmm...yummy. Not. =/ I think 15 cats is a little...much. I can go for two, I think our highest number was 4 once, but they were barn cats then, so it was a totally different situation. But 15...it's like, everywhere you step there's fur (or well, shit). Yuck.
At least they keep the shitting to the bathroom and we don't have to search throughout the house. But they've torn curtains down, knocked everything off my brother's desk, found every scrap of food that wasn't in the fridge.
I won't even leave our cats in the house when we leave to run errands, much less let them stay in here by themselves for two weeks.
Now I have to say that five of the cats are kittens that are just about at weening age and I would probably have left them and the momma in there. But before I left every other cat would have been out the door.
Five more days, five more days. I just keep up the mantra.
What is wrong with him,is the first question here. Fifteen cats, little old crazy ladies have fifteen cats. Urgh! I watch neighbour's cats once in a while, but they are outdoors mostly and seldom use the box. Wouldn't do it if I had to sort the box every day. Ick! My deepest sympathies! Seriously.
Oh he has always been cat crazy. When he lived in South Carolina they had over 100 cats. Outside cats, mind you, but still over 100. I think it's because he's just too cheap to get the mommas fixed.
That's the first thing I do when I get a new animal. It gets fixed. We only have one pet that is not fixed and well he's a Pomeranian and only five inches tall and our female dogs are Blue Heelers. They are fixed but even if they weren't he could never reach them to breed them.
You know, write a book about your brother. He sounds crazy enough to be good material :) More than 100 cats. Jeez! Neighbour's cats are fixed too. I think that's the only responsible thing to do if you're not going to breed them.
You know, I've been told many times to write a book about my life and my family, but if I do I'd seriously have to change alot of names, because it's a regular Peyton Place around here.

And my kids had the nerve to ask if we could keep one of his kittens. My answer you ask? "Not only no, but HELL NO!"
