"Look, I'm sorry," Ellen says. "My mind is... jumbled. We're working long hours, Isaiah's in homophobe rehab, everyone's asking me about feuds and slurs, and I'm a little drunk... Did I mention the homophobe rehab?"
"Yes." Kate nods. "And I'm so glad you did. Has such a ring to it."
"Also," Ellen continues, "I'm not good at speaking. In front of a lot of people. When drunk."
"Uh huh."
"Plus, you know."
Kate raises an eyebrow. "Yeah?"
"The incident earlier in the evening." She waits for Kate to show a glimmer of recognition, but she gets nothing. Not even a smirk. "You know." She leans forward and waves her hand in a frantic gesture that she means to stand for 'C'mon, you *know* what I'm talking about.' Kate takes a step back. "When you kissed me." In the bathroom, before either of them had started to drink, Kate said, 'You look good' and... there was kissing. Kate had kissed her before -- with a similar lack of provocation -- but this was the first time she seemed to *mean* it. "There was tongue. That's distracting."
"I know." Kate shrugs. "But I kiss everyone."
Ellen relaxes a little as Kate smiles. "You are such a whore."
"And yet, you don't know who I am. I thought my whoring was enough to make you remember me, but--"
"I *am* sorry."
Kate curves her hand against Ellen's hip. "There are ways to make it up to me. Granted, they were things I had in mind before you mixed me up with your TV mom, but they could also be an apology."
Ellen laughs. "You really are a whore."
"You know that's what you like best about me. Outside of my distinctive name."
There's another kiss, and by the time they're naked, Ellen is certain that Kate is serious this time.
