Sunday at McDougals

Coraline was fed up of not doing anything and not knowing anything. It wasn’t like there were Mythology 101 books in the library. Well, okay there were Mythology 101 books in the library but most of them didn’t feature how to kill psychotic vengeful creatures that wanted to kill you and eat your soul. Plenty of stuff on how to kill vampires, not so much on the Other Mother or the Beldam or whatever you wanted to call her. And whilst Tara’s magic was holding up on her apartment it wasn’t like she could stay locked away forever. It was time to stop running away like she was a scared little child, it was time to start being proactive.

Being proactive in Coraline Jones’s measures meant getting information and whilst Wikipedia was great at finding out your everyday stuff it wasn’t really meant for looking at how to kill possibly century old creatures determined to drain your soul. This meant the vaults of the museum and whilst she was sure getting caught would probably mean a one way ticket back to England and no Masters degree- it would be worth it. Besides she wasn’t planning on getting caught.

Getting the books from the museum hadn’t been too hard in the end; she’d caused a minor fire in the East Wing to get the books from the quite spooky vault and then had simply walked out at the end of the shift. Really it was like they wanted her to have the books. And it was for the good of everyone, or so Coraline argued to herself.
Taking the book with her to work, she hid it beneath the counter of the bar and got to work. Coraline turned a page secretly in between serving customers and read the book with a somewhat disturbed look on her face.

“Dispossession; to disposs the body of a demon you need to cut- oh that is just disgusting.” Coraline muttered to herself turning the page to something about a devils trap to snare a demon and then your everyday exorcism to get the demon out. That was much more civilised, though she wasn’t exactly sure if the Other Mother counted as a demon so that was probably out. “Rock salt can be used in-“ Coraline looked up smiling at the customer easily and slammed the book shut firmly “-cocktails. New cocktail book, not that this place really needs cocktails but you go with what the boss wants. What can I get you? You look like a Cosmo kind of person.”
