Passionate Warrior of the United States of Whatever

Nov 21, 2005 23:01

So eager to fight,
Young warrior of the United States of Whatever.
You've read and heard all about it.
So you think you're ready?

Obsessed and dressed in camo,
Break out the gear,
Let's play dress up…
And kill some bitches.

The country you belong to feeds on evil, you know.
Men who want to become gods;
Is this who you're fighting for?
Can't you see what this place has become?
And you want to fight for us,
Your only reprieve: little yellow ribbons on the back of cars.
You'd risk your life for this land and we give you no real token to show we care.
Do we even care?

Worst of all,
You'd put your family in a perpetual state of worry.
And for what?

Your life,
As precious as any life
Would so easily go to waste
As you fight for something so blindly.

Your idealism is your weakness, I think.
You're trying to fight this evil, I can see.
You want to make the world a better place
And if you have to die trying,
It'll be enough for you to hope that after you die things will be peaceful.
And you would know you contributed.

But as long as time has been around,
War persists,
And it would be ignorant of you to feel things will be okay in our future.

Things don't get better, you see.
They just change.

Fight for goodness instead.
Fight for, what in your heart,
Makes you feel worth
And not what makes you feel hatred and resentment.

Young warrior,
Young, passionate, innocent warrior.
Your only peace is here and now:
In your mind and in your life.
Let those godly men fight their own battles.

You can rise above, you know…
And it's not so hard to bring others with you.

Young, passionate, innocent,
LIVING warrior…

Thank you for your sacrifice.

(This poem is dedicated to a young man in my English class.)
