This is a much-needed follow-up to my last post, which unintentionally kinda creeped out my blog buddies. I'm touched by all the concern. Peeps, there's no need to worry. :) But if you can spare them, i'd like your thoughts on my thoughts.
So here's the deal. Ever since Obama's win and the subsequent realization that this country is in an even bigger boatload of trouble than we ever really imagined, I've been feeling like we're truly on the verge of something really big. Not only as a country, but also as individual citizens.
And what decides if we sink or swim, is how good each of us are at thinking waaaaay outside the box. I mean like transcending the box. Imagining the impossible, and then making it a reality. This in every facet of american life--the economy, foreign policy, science and technology, the environment, infrastructure, education, civil rights, religion, family values, grassroots organizing, etc... I mean, we're seriously gonna have to bring it. :)
It will require breaking a lot of old rules and letting go of a lot of cynical beliefs that we've mistaken for truth (especially in the last 8 years.) And I think this process has already begun with a black man becoming president. (somthing that's so quickly being taken for granted.) If Obama can utilize his organizing power in leading this nation the way he did his campaign, I honestly think we've got a good chance of not just staying afloat but seriously reinventing ourselves. And that is a very exciting thing...
I've got more, but I haven't figured out how to put it into words yet.
Here's to 2009.
