Girls day out

Dec 02, 2006 10:21

Well last Saturday a few of us girls decided to have a girls day out. Anita organised it. Mel, Maz, Brooke, Anita and myself all turned up. There were a few invited that were no shows, and of course didnt answer there phone, but hey, we didnt really mind as we had a great mix of people.

We met a waggamammas at 1pm at Kings Wharf in town, Opposite Darling Harbour. Well we were suppose to be there at 1 but as usual i was late. I had to pick up brooke and marie. Brooke was all ready to go and waiting at the door, but Marie, (who i told had to be ready on time) was on the phone vaccuming when we arrived. She didnt take too long to leave, but brooke and i have decided that we are always later to things (my hens days by 40mins as well) and there is a common factor. MARIE!!! so yes, we were late because of marie lol.....

Anyways, got there and found parking, on the 3rd basement level of a car park! As i dont smoke and hate it and i drove, as soon as we stop in the car park the girls lit up. of course there was only a lift to go up to the street level so we run and jump in and the doors wont close! marie is holding her ciggie out he door as doesnt want to get too much smoke in the lift!! he he, so she puts her arm in and away we go.

Lunch was good. In london everyone always went to waggamammas but i never did. And going to one now i probably wouldnt go back. The food was good but the restaurant reminds me of a production line. they want you in and out and its just a hall of long tables with bench seats. Can not see what everyone rave about at all. I like restaurants to be personal and to be able to see some history about the place and the owners. i dont really like steel and glass establishments.

I always loved the old english pubs with the smelly carpets and stuff all over the walls that you could look at and read each time you went. They called them free houses, but london pubs is another story...

Anyways, had a couple of bottles of wine over lunch then went next door to the cargo bar. We had a table right at the window over looking the water at darling harbour.

there we sat and laughed and drank for hours! The weather was terrible and there was heavy rain most of the afternoon. We were right beside one of the boat piers where people got on the harbour cruises and everyone would be soaking by the time they made it on the boat... fun fun...

When it was getting into the evening the cargo bar turned a bit pretencious and the music went dosh dosh a bit and everyone came in dressed to the ts. its usually about this time i head off to another bar, and there was one i wanted to go to. It use to be called the craig, but has changed it name a few times since then but seems the same. We walked past it the other day when we were in town site seeing with docs parents. They had a guy with guitar singing sub lime, and i said to doc we have to come back one day.

I like live music. I like that after a few drinks you sing along and dance (or think you are dancing) and have a great time with friends. After a few drinks im not good at being quiet and looking cool and trying to keep my composure. I feel snobby and its not me. I like to let me hair down, but since i was sober it didnt bother me too much (luckily for the others or i would of been a real nag and dragged them there!)

We moved to the pool table room as brooke was fixated on having a game. Problem was the people playing were blind and would have a 10 min chat in between each shot. it was getting very annoying and we were just starting to think about pushing the balls into the pockets when they were not looking.

Then we decided to go out to oxford street and meet up with one of maries mates and party on there. Remember i was driving!!! i was very good and did have a few drinks, but not to go over the limit, but everyone else was way gone by then. And driving them was a challenge!!! I think we left he cargo bar at about 9pm, and made it to oxford street at about 11.30. Remembering it is only about 10 mins drive at the most.

Marie first said she knew where it was (after having to ask cabs and do a few u turns) and she took us to kings cross!!!! she thought you turned left at the coke sign and that was it! then Mel thought she knew and took us to bondi junction (twice) then finally we stopped for gas and asked someone there.

Everyone was drinking (had bought roadys) and smoking in the car and i was sober and was starting to get tired. Now i know how all the sober drivers feel when we are all wasted in the back. I dont know how taxi drivers do it!

Anyways, i said i would come in for 1 if there was a spot outside, but then was heading home. (it was still pouring rain). Of course brooke found 1 straight away and in we went.

As we walked to the Hollywood hotel. a dingy looking pub off the back streets of oxford street, and was so crowded you couldnt move. But you could see that this would be a cool old english bar during the day. Anyways as we walked in the doorman told brooke to put her ciggie out as it was a non smoking bar.. YEAH I WAS IN HEAVEN. i was so excited as i had sat with 4 smokers all afternoon and i had had enough. My lungs felt full and i was already getting my smokers cough back, adn then the guys said "there is a small smoking room right at the back".... ahh so there we stood, crammed into a small back room with no air con or ventilation.
i got chatting to a nice gay guy who was an aussie but who had lived in london for 18 years and was just back for holidays so had loads in common with him, but the smoke was too much. Brooke didnt know if she wanted to stay or go, anita had left from the cargo bar and all of a sudden Mel, who was one of the main ones who said they wanted to go out and that i was a party pooper for not wanting to go, suddenly said "im tired im going home" and left!!! So brooke decided to go home and after she finished her drink off we went.

it was pouring rain and dark and didnt enjoy the drive home, but good old brooke talked to me the whole way home and took my mind off the drive.

i got home at 12.30, sober and went to bed.

Had the best day even the driving around was fun and cant wait to do it again!!!!
