I think the movie is fantastic - though I think it contains lots of propaganda materials but I do not mind. It started with the portrayal of wartime Singapore. The splattering of the merlion is a piece of art - the image stays in the mind. Indeed this sets the mood for the movie and justifies the purpose of NS. Making the concerns of overprotective mothers of recruits kinda sound whimsical.
But I can relate to the worried mothers, and also to how the family prepare nice food, wash the clothes of the recruits who return after his first two weeks of BMT. That is because mum fussed over me when I entered BMT too, though certainly not to the degree as shown in the movie.
The people from the different walks of life - that is quite well depicted too, though they speak with an English twang that somehow comes across as being too polished. The familiar BMT barracks - that I will never want to visit again. The way the chaps fall in, in the parade square so early in the morning. Reminiscences.
Anyway I confessed I teared a little near the end. I shall not spoil the show for those who had not watched, but I had not expect that slight twist in the plot.
A must watch for all Singaporeans. And I bet MINDEF endorses it. Fully. KPMG too. Rolls eyes.
p/s: the protoganist is cute. Lol.
