Pilot Review: State of Affairs -- A Decent Start to a Show That Has Potential....

For the past year I've been catching up on my political thrillers and/or political conspiracy movies from All the President's Men to the live action representation of Tom Clancy's novels. So going into State of Affairs I pretty much knew I was expecting on the political front of things. Having that said I'm really not into Homeland, Scandal, or The Blacklist. So I didn't know what to expect from that angle really.

The "Pilot" honestly has a rough start because you are pretty much thrown into several storylines you really have no idea what is about. As the episode goes on I did start to feel more comfortable where the direction was heading. Whether it be saving the American doctor from terrorists to the discovery of who was actually behind the infamous terrorist attack that killed the President's son, and who happens to be the heroine Charlie's fiancée. The last fifteen minutes of the show is really cool and I enjoyed it. The dialogue is kinda iffy in some parts, but when the dialogue is good it is good and the cast delivers it as such.

It was interesting to see Katherine Heigl portray a different character in comparison to her romantic comedies, Grey's Anatomy, or Roswell. I won't lie it did take a little bit to get used to because Charlie has a dismissive quality to her that isn't as warm as say Izzie Stevens or Isabel Evans. The show definitely has potential because I am curious about how the storylines pan out considering what is shown in the season trailer for the show. Now will it survive the freshmen cancellation ax? It's a toss-up depending on its ratings.
