Mel's Review of Lost Season 6 Premiere "LA X"

Feb 03, 2010 18:21

Last night was the beginning of the end for this intriguing series which was both bittersweet and exciting at the same time. Overall, I did enjoy the premiere especially the 2004 alternate timeline since everything was practically brand new all over again in this what if senerio.

2007

Jack - My heart truly ached for this guy because he tries so hard to fix things and carries so much burden. He carries all these deaths on his shoulders, and Jack is just utterly there in shock and sorrow. That's what I think sometimes some people are forgetting. I'm not referring to anyone who reads this or the areas I post my reviews. It's just some things I have read after the premiere aired last night and later this afternoon. I'm a viewer that does enjoy all the characters, and Jack is a character I truly care about. So from my point of view I someone that recently carries John Locke's death on his shoulder (I'm hoping now the cat is out of the bag on Fake!Locke Jack will no longer carry this guilt), and now Juliet's death is on his shoulders. Not because of Sawyer and Jules connection, but Jack also had a friendship with Juliet as well. So it can't be easy on Jack no matter the angle. Then for a brief amount of time he had Sayid's death on his shoulders. The solider that had, for the majority of the series, had Jack's back. Talk about emotional turmoil, so when I saw Jack just sitting there at the end of the premiere in the healing part of the Temple my heart just ached. That's all he could do. Just sit there and just reflect on the events that took place in front of his eyes. Honestly, I would do the same as Jack did. Just sit down and be left alone in my own thoughts about my fallen friends and feeling they are dead because of the decisions I made. Alas, it's good to note that Daniel and Jack's plan did partically work.

Sawyer & Juliet - While I do feel the chemistry between Josh and Evie I lean more to the ship of Sawyer and Juliet because there as self-destructive as Sawyer and Kate. I was overjoyed to have one last scene of Jules and this couple. I was expecting to see Juliet in the alternate reality not the actual timeline, so that was a great surprise and it just got to me in the gut. Got quite teary-eyed. The couple's last moment was so touching and sad, and man did Josh hit the intense, angry grief out of the park. I completely understand why Sawyer blames Jack and if Sawyer wasn't angry I would think something is wrong with him lol. In the end I hope (and I think they will) the boys will eventually work it out. 'Cause I think Sawyer deep down knows that Jack would never intentionally want to hurt someone especially one of his friends. Granted Jack didn't heal little Ben, but one would say he was never meant to heal him but the island was. Plus IMO Jack was still recovering from his downspiral and was clearly not thinking straight. Plus it's not like anyone could predict this. Even though Daniel was off the charts smart he couldn't plan everything to a tee. What I liked as well is having Jules give a foreshadowing nod about how Jack and Daniel's planned worked. Juliet mentioned "coffee" and "dutch" when she was in the shaft of the Swan hatch, and it was similar to how Charlotte spoke of her Dharma childhood to Daniel before she died in his arms. It felt like to me that Juliet's mind or whatever you wanna call it was going between both timeline universes.

Hugo & Jacob - It was great to see Jacob again though a part of me is thinking "dude it's Lucifier" lol. If one doesn't know Mark plays the character of Lucifer on Supernatural. Last season we saw Hugo fully accept his power of seeing dead people, and now he is using his power to communicate with Jacob, save Sayid, and help the people in the Temple from the Smokey aka Man in Black aka Fake!Locke. Sawyer and Jack's leadership were just tapped, so it was awesome to see Hugo take the role for leader in a few scenes. I wasn't expecting to see what was in the guitar case this early, but it was nice to get that little object out of the way. It looked like that piece of paper was a list, and it wasn't a mini-list like the one Micheal had in the end of season 2.

Sayid - Man, I was waiting and waiting until he was....dead *sniff*. The moment I saw the healing water was red and not clear I knew it wasn't a good sign. That Sayid would die, but now the surprising thing is that he is alive. Not only is he alive but it even shocked the Temple peeps. So the question is did the healing water work thus noting the island isn't exactly done with him yet? Alas, is Sayid going to be different now due to the consequences or will it not affect him due to the decisions Sayid has made in his life? Or simply is Sayid not Sayid anymore? Just as I was expecting Sayid to die I was expecting him to live because for one he is an original Lostie and has abilities that would prove quite useful in the upcoming war. That said I still got teary-eyed a bit just thinking Sayid was lying there dead, and seeing his friends grieve for him.

Kate, Jin, & Miles - Didn't have a lot of going on this time due to everything else happening, but it was always nice to see supporting characters support the people they care about that have a lot of things going on. That said it looked like Miles was getting some kind of reading off of Dead!Sayid. Hugo asked what was up or something, and it looked like Miles was perhaps hiding something he was reading.

Fake!Locke aka Man In Black aka Smoke Monster & Richard - The reveal of who was whom was quite predictable, but what I liked about it was that it was more of a confirmation to the audience. Just as I speculated Fake!Locke was Smokey in the centric Ben episode in season five, I'm sure a lot of people did, there were signs all over the place that pointed to this reveal. It was quite led up to for quite some time. Ever notice when the smokey monster appears Fake!Locke is not around, or when smokey monster doesn't show up is because Fake!Locke is right there. Terry did a good job at portraying this very angry person who merely wants to go home. Going home is a neverending plot device for villians that honestly never gets old. While it's a reused plot device the question is what is home to the Man in Black? Is it an area inside the Temple? Or does the Man In Black simply want to get off the island and go into the real world just like Jacob did for centuries? The way Smokey killed Jacob's bodyguards was intense, and I like that they had the ash method used. Once again confirming that the ash is what kept the Man in Black out from Jacob's areas (i.e. they put ash around the Temple too).

Color me intrigued, and now he has hurt and took Richard. When Fake!Locked mentioned he saw Richard in chains is another confirmation that Richard came from the Black Rock ship, and if he was in chains then it's a good possibility he was a slave on that ship. I'm looking forward to the Richard centric episode on why he never ages, his power, and etc. Richard is quite a mystery, and to see him to scared sent a chill down my spine. This a character that lived for a very long time and seen the island do amazing things. To see this character, who rarely used physical violence, be scared and beat up to a bloody pulp was sad to see because I love Richard lol.

Ben - The malipulator is now the malipulated...d'oh lol. His reaction to everything was priceless because that never really happens to this character. He got owned and I would imagine he would want some vengence on this malipulation. One thing I wonder is that what if Jacob knew he was going to be murdered ahead of time. Hence convincing Hugo to come back to the island as a backup plan since he is the only one that can communicate with him beyond his final thoughts, and making that snide comment to Ben before he died.

Dogan & Temple Peeps - I don't know what to make up of them yet. They are interesting, but I'm not sure yet. It was great to see Cindy and the children once more.

Frank & Sun - Didn't have a lot going on but the deadpan, dry humor Frank has still kills me lol. When Frank said "I see it but I don't believe it" I couldn't help but giggle hehe. Can't wait to see more of these two when it's their turn.

The Alternate 2004 Timeline

Island Underwater?! - One of my favorite moments was the reveal of the island underwater, and Jack and Daniel's plan worked. How we went through the clouds to travelling throughout the island's terrain from the Dharma houses (dude they even showed the shark lol) to Jacob's main locale. It was great to see that.

Ocean 815 - The moment the plane survived the turblence everything was brand new once again. Seeing the cast in their season one haircuts and clothes was great. Going back and forth between Confidence Man Sawyer to Grief-Stricken Sawyer or Real!Locke to Fake!Locke was a great trip to see and great performances by these actors of these roles and the writing of these characters. It once again shows the differences in a matter of five seasons can do.

Dead Men Rising - How great was it to see Boone again *drools*, and reminded me how much I love the chemistry between Ian and Terry. I'm a fan of The Vampire Diaries and Ian does a wonderful job of the complex character Damon Salvatore, so a part of me was waiting for him to suck Locke's blood lol. Loved seeing that old mentor-student relationship between the two. It was great to see Charlie again even though he was practically committing suicide by putting the whole entire drag in his mouth. You can see in this alternate reality we haven't seen the last of Charlie vs. Jack. I truly love the parallels to season one in the plan ride. Just as Jack saved Charlie in S1 he saved him once again in S5. It was great to see the marshall again, and it brought back memories of when he was on Supernatural in season 2. I'm excited to see the other characters come back for this final season.

Subtle Differences - Jack seems to be more of a believer in his medical abilities thus perhaps he has a bit more faith in this alternate universe. Hurley believes he is the luckiest man in the world lol. Rose was far more calmer on the plane during the turblence and Jack was far more shook up (as if he knew perhaps of the other timeline). Jack and Rose did a role reversal, and Charlie never went pass them. Dude, Oceanic airline lost Christian Shepard!! How in the heck do you lose a coffin, and where in the heck are Locke's knives. Jin is loaded with money that were never checked in prior to their flight, so how did they get there. Was this money used to make sure Jin and Sun can restart their lives in the US, and Jin was able to hid it when they left Sydney? It was a great surprise to see Desmond on the plane, and then he merely vanished without a trace. Was that a touch of Des being a rarity in both universes. I mean was Des time travelling through time again or what? 'Cause remember no hatch then there is no reason why Des should be pushing the button. The events in 1977 have now been altered for the next thirty years in the alternate timeline. Lastly, Shannon stayed in Australia. Subtle differences bring the most interesting questions in this what if senerio.

Some Things Never Change - Jack saving and fixing things. Sawyer helping Kate. Kate continues to be on the run but got into a cab with preggers Claire!! Marshall got hit in the head on the same place lol. Jin and Sun are same ol' same ol' pre-island, and still buttoning tops. It was interesting and hard to see this couple I love this way again because I truly loved seeing their relationship grow and progress. Sawyer is back to his confidence man ways, but man how I love seeing it because Josh is so good at it. Locke and Jack are debating the facts of life using their life experiences to support their opinions. The scene where Locke and Jack was one of my favorite scenes because you know it's Real!Locke talking to Jack, and sadly the alternate reality world will be the only chance we will get to see it take place since Locke is dead. It was great to see Matthew and Terry interact in this fashion once again. Artz and Neal (?) are still annoying as ever too lol. While Bernard and Rose continue to be madly in love, but if Rose still has her terminal cancer than she is sadly going to die because she isn't being healed on the island.

I think that's it lol. I'm sure there is a lot I didn't touch upon and I have massive grammar errors and typos, but these were the things I remembered after a day passed. I love seeing Lost on a weekly basis once again, but alas for a short time it will be *sniff*.
