Meh, it happens. I've been having a bit of trouble falling asleep lately, possibly because of the small amount of stuff I've been doing during the day. Been waking up at 9AM or earlier every day, though -- the alarm goes off at 9, but sometimes living with noisy family members or a dog or a lightning clap or the sun means I'm up earlier. I didn't used to consider myself a light sleeper, but there you go.
Tomorrow is full of plans -- I need to
send off a few books, fax medical information release forms around, go grocery shopping, be with relatively large amounts of family members from early afternoon till/through dinnertime, then meet up with friends and (hopefully) see a midnight showing of WALL-E. Although I guess the movie is technically not on the same day as the rest of it, being the only portion that's *actually* tomorrow going by the hour. (I rate days passing by whether I sleep. When I stay up all night, I'm generally screwed up enough to not notice any dissonance -- I don't stay up very often at all.)
The medical information release forms are kind of an exciting step -- I've found a doctor who seems to be a good fit for me. Rather, Dad found her. My parents are good to me. But anyway, she's the mom of one of my brother's friends, and while picking the friend up from a LAN party here she and I got in a pretty involved discussion about that article in SEED awhile back about simultaneous discoveries and the like. I think I also impressed her by possibly relating a 4-year age cohort theory to U.S. school structure. She's the kind of doctor that spends an hour and a half with you actually talking about your health issues and things, which I definitely appreciate. Anyway, yes, little pieces of excitedness. I'm also going to see a new dentist, mostly to check on my wisdom teeth and just plain make sure everything's going OK in there. I might also grind my teeth while I sleep. Not sure.
Right right. So, I'm still sitting here listening to soothing-ish music. I'm plenty relaxed, but I don't seem to be tired anymore. Grrrreat. Maybe I'll take a nap tomorrow somewhere in there.
Other news includes a book coming my way, also from bookmooch:
Bloodchild and Other Stories by Octavia E. Butler. This recently deceased author is one of my favorites; I owe
peacockangel lots of thanks for first suggesting I read her stuff. In any case, they're good stories, sometimes pretty twisted and/or graphic, often involving humanlike aliens or alien-like humans (strange bodyforms, for instance, or psi powers). She also writes science fiction from the black female perspective, which is rare rare rare (and, of course, she does it well.)
My mind is *really* all over the place tonight. I apologize. I've been attempting sleep off and on for a few hours.
This morning, I had a fun recipe epiphany: {leftover Chinese black rice + pecorino cheese + a bit of orange juice) stuffed into mini bell peppers, which are then popped into the toaster oven for a while leading to a tasty tasty brunchy snack. Of course, this doesn't have to use that particular kind of rice or cheese or pepper, but it looked particularly striking with the dark purple rice and bits of white cheese in the bright orange/red/yellow peppers. Also, it has a nice taste/mouthfeel, a bit like brown rice just moreso. I think, though, when I made the rice originally, the rice cooker spat bits of dark purple all around, staining itself and the nearby electric kettle. Which is funny, because it means I've stained more stuff here in the past week or so making rice than dyeing my hair (which is now bluer, because I ran out of purple dye).
Speaking of the hair, the color has to be back to natural before my cousin's wedding on Labor Day weekend. This means it's probably not going to be funky colors for a while, due to my really really not wanting to fry my hair. Oh well. Dad suggested I go blonde, but a picture from the original bleaching of my hair reminds me that would be a *bad* idea. I'm probably just going to end up a slightly darker brown than by (boring) natural color. Maybe it'll be slightly redder instead of slightly darker. I dunno. Suggestions? I might also toy with the cut -- it's currently layered with the longest pieces being 4-5 inches below shoulder length, and is defaulting to ponytail every day for reasons of annoyingness. I've considered going shortish, but I'm afraid I'll just end up with something of a jewfro or just an ugly ball of frizz for a head, which I do not want.
Maybe I'll play a few quick puzzle game things then go try to sleep again. Bye.
