Saturday found me waking at 7:30 am (why can't I do that at home?) and getting the water boiling for tea. The day was spent washing dishes, cooking, washing dishes, trying to sew, washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen tent, cooking, eating, washing dishes...you get the picture. The event reminded me why I like food merchants so much - I HATE being trapped in the kitchen tent all weekend!
Sunday was much of the same, save for the couple of hours I got to learn card weaving. I managed to complete a 5 foot length of trim before we left on Monday and I've already got my loom warped and at least two feet of trim done :) During the time I was at Adam and Ælfryn's geteld (Norse tent) learning to weave,
wulfstan slaved away in the kitchen tent heating up our yummy chili, washing dishes and then minded the kids until they came over to the geteld. They played there happily, even charming Bera Signy into reading to Emily (it didn't take much..."Would you like me to read to you?" "Yes, please"). Rick got our potluck dinner offerings ready and we feasted, then opened our champagne from lj user="blunderbess"> and got toasted by those assembled on our marriage.
Rick was wonderful - between his attempts to rescue me from the dishes and letting me get an hourlong nap on Sunday, I still managed to feel rested. The children's constant whining for food (because you KNOW that they must have been starving with all the trail mix and veggies and fruit and cookies and pickles and sandwiches...) I could have done without. But on the whole, I got to shoot archery and help teach Geoffrey, weave, sew by the creek, sing (YES, sing), hang out with good friends, snuggle with my children, watch shooting stars streak across the sky, go for romantic strolls with my love and fall asleep in his strong arms.
Can't beat that.
Monday was a very laid back thing, mostly taken up with packing up. We took our time, packed everything up right and were on the road by 1:30. I think Don was happy to have everyone cleared off the property, but he has said himself that he misses everyone.
I look forward to attending Grene Wode next year. Perhaps then, I'll be there in my own right and not as "spouse of" a member...
