On Vox: Last day off, cookouts and happy husbands...

Cowflesh and various pork bits were seared to perfection over gaseous fire by the wonderful Husband (pictured left).  Friends consumed the flesh and also yummy cold alcohol-laden beverages, and It Was Good.

So glad the weather has cooperated so well with us this holiday.  The farms needed rain, so it rained.  And then it stopped and got sunny and beautiful yesterday, just in time for the cookout.

Todd, Bill After eating, we went inside for more Doctor Who (season one, The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (season four, Harsh Light of Day) and Angel (season one, In The Dark).

And now today is the last day of my mini 5-day home vacation.  It's been absolutely lovely.  Sleeping in as late as I want, going to the gym, reading, catching up on everything.  I think I'll be nicely recharged and ready to not kill my coworkers when Tuesday finally rolls around.

However, there was one sad bit to my weekend... I had to say goodbye to an old friend.  He came into my life rather unexpectedly; I never thought I'd be the kind of person to have someone like him in my life, ever.  He taught me many lessons... the thrill of fear, the intoxication of swiftness, and the pure joy of freedom and wind and a stretch of twisty road.  He taught me to fly, and I will always have memory-dreams of careening madly through the air, wind a rushing howl in my ears, heart pounding in my throat, with a rumbling, growling Monster between my legs.  Joey went to live with a different family, you see.  I feel his loss acutely, but also some amount of peace.  Something I've learned in life is you must let go of magic to keep it magic.  You enjoy it and then you pass it on.  It keeps it real.
I hope Joey will continue to bring joy and pleasure to those who ride him, and I hope he'll remember me with great fondness, too.
How you doin'?  I'm really good.  Really.  Thank you.
