Melon Field 5 [Chris]

The nearest melon field is a short trip to the north. But despite its proximity to the town, the forest quickly thickens, and this melon field sits in a perfect weedless square, looking odd against the wild bushes all around it. Squirrels and bears rabbits occasionally skirt about, though they flee at the first sign of people. Some sunlight ( Read more... )

Melon bashing wasn't particularly romantic. Manly, maybe (Oooh, very few people could break these, what if Tsuna could~?), and kind of funny, but that was about. She wasn't here for the melon bashing. She was here for the long walk through the woods, though the melon patch was much more interesting than she had imagined.

Especially those shining melons! Mist walked over to Shining Melon #4 and touched it, and she couldn't help letting out an "Oooo." If it weren't for the vine, it would be more like a magic rock or something.

It was a surprise when the walk through the woods was over. He had been enjoying the relaxing atmosphere that had settled on the two of them since they left the town behind them. This was a kind of peace they rarely enjoyed back at the noisy apartment building. But it felt like they had only just entered the forest when suddenly the small field appeared in front of them, jostling Tsuna from his half formed plans of sweeping Mist off her feet.

A quick glance around the melon patch was enough for even the most obtuse of observers to realize these weren't your regular fruit. Not a huge surprise, given their location, but Tsuna was taken aback none the less. He knelt down next to the melon Mist had poked to get a better look. "I always thought melons only came in green,' Tsuna muttered. "And didn't, you know... glow."

"Sometimes they come in pale yellow," she offered. "But... not glowing rainbow colors." She knocked on it firmly, knowing reflexively that she should be listening for some sort of sound.

Right. He had forgotten the yellow melons. Trying to act like he knew something about the ways of the melon, Tsuna closed his eyes when Mist knocked on it and pretended to listen to the sound as well.

The melon feels and sounds ripe, but nothing happens.

"It's a good melon," she said cheerfully, mentally adding, I think. In any case, it sounded like a melon. Even though melons weren't supposed to survive -- things like that over there. Mist watched Axel pummel flashily at the melon, to no effect.

"Maybe they're not melons," she amended.

Tsuna followed her gaze just in time to see Axel headbutt the melon with no success. "D-Definitely not regular melons, in any case."

Wondering how they were suppose to break open a melon that the overpowered couldn't, Tsuna poked the thing a few times. " Maybe it has to be boiled or something first?"

"Maybe." But she didn't suggest they go and do it because, well... even with all the strange beings doing things to melons, it was an arranged date, and she felt a little bad about wandering off like that. Perhaps subconsciously reacting to her desire to stay in the field, she turned around and sat on it. A little hard, but about the right height.

Melon is sat on. Nothing else happens.

Not really an ambitious person by nature, Tsuna was perfectly content to just stay where they were as well... provided of course no explosions came their way. He sat down on the ground next to Mist to watch the amusing antics of other people in the field.

Mist patted the shining melon next to hers, #3. "Here," she say by way of explanation. It felt odd to have them sitting at different heights.

He grinned and pulled the second melon closer before sitting on it. "If all else fails we can always use the melons as book ends. Or doorstops. If we get really desperate we could even use them as weapons to defend ourselves with."

"Invincible weapons and shields. They'd do much better at that than they are being food." Mist thought to herself that should one of these melons ever enter her kitchen, she would feel a rather disconcerting lack of control. Master Chef Mist was not to be crossed by melons. But Mist the romantic was fine.

Tsuna rolled back and forth a bit on his melon. They were amazingly strong fruit. Maybe I should equip the Vongola family with them. He chuckled quietly at the image of mobsters throwing melons at each other. " I guess even inedible food has a place in this world."

"Should we call them food?" There just seemed something off with calling inedible, invincible melons... food. Well, melons were food, but food was usually not what these were. But Tsuna probably didn't care, so with random glance at an unsuspecting red melon (5), said, "Hey, do you think they're actually this color, or painted?"

"Uh..." he honestly had no idea. Hopefully it was their natural colour. It would take some of the magic out of the melons if they were just painted. He leaned over the side of the shining melon he was sitting on and scratched at the surface with his nail. "If it is paint, whoever did it did a fantastic job. It doesn't look like anything chips off, even with all the smashing people have been doing to them."
