My day trip to the city
So this was only my second voyage into the city and though I still think I'm a London girl when it comes to the metropolises of the world... New York definitely did not let me down.
So here was the day in pictures and notes:
I went with some friends here at the Opera, and Zach (the guy in the red) apparently knows one of the backstage people at Spamalot... So here is Kurtis, myself and Zach on the Schubert stage, holding The Holy Grail.
And another... of them attacking me with the bunny
After that, I went to see the glorious Alan Cumming, Cyndi Lauper, Ana Gasteyer, and Jim Dale at Studio 54 in Three Penny Opera.
Oh... and I met them :)
Shannon from UET is working this summer at the Roundabout Theatre Corp (Who produced Threepenny offhanded), so I met her up for a lovely dinner, talking about jobs and the city, before I was off to my evening engagement.
Prior to the show, I had stopped by Hairspray to see if Michelle Dowdy was still there and if she might be performing (For those who don't know Michelle, she went to PCCA and is a class below me... From various Thespian and theatre events throughout high school we'd met a few times... Last year she was given the opportunity to understudy for Tracy Turnbald on Broadway's Hairspray)
And by chance she was performing this week. A friend of hers, Danny, was also in the city by chance and he and I got to "win" the student rush tickets to see her that evening. Not only was the performance PHENOMENAL (Drea I totally understand your fanatacism now... I'd never seen it before), but Michelle was a doll and let us go backstage and see the sets and all. Here's a quick shot of her and I...
I ended the night by meeting Mr. Michael Cerveris at Sweeny Todd and halucinating on the four hour drive home. Overall it was the most fabulous day I can imagine. I saw my first two Broadway shows, went backstage and stood on stage at two of the most famous playhouses in New York, and met my Broadway idle Alan Cumming.
And now back to the passion of the Opera....
