haircut/color suggestions, if you please!

***I posted this in madradhair, but the best and most trustworthy advice comes from friends, no? :o)***

Okay, so my friend Christine took me along to her summer job yesterday (caring for a bunch of animals at the vet school), and the puppies clearly wanted me to cut it, since they kept pulling and biting my ponytail...

This one liked my earrings, though, so I guess I'm not a total lost cause :oP

Anyway, back to hair: Mine is long, all one length, and fairly straight. I generally wear it like this...

Here are a few more to give you a better idea of the length and color, in natural light and then with flash. I'd had it in a braid, but it's normally pretty straight:

I'm thinking bangs, and definitely a cut. I think this would look okay - I tried faking them both:

So now I just have to decide on a cut - somewhere between shoulder and chin length, I think, and not too time-consuming to take care of and style. I generally wash my hair every other day, if that makes a difference. Here are a few of my favorites (you all have such lovely hair!):

Nicole Richie's cut seems like it'd be pretty easy to style and whatnot.

I love these two A-lines.

...and this baby one!

These shorter cuts are all really cute, but I've really only seen them on more petite girls - I'm not fat, but I'm 5'9" and have a larger, athletic frame. Un-scare me?

A few final questions:
-Color suggestions? This is my natural color, save a few old Sun-In highlights, and I could go for a change. I'm open to just about anything in the middle range - not much lighter than I have now, and not black. Maybe a nice warm brown, or a reddish mahogany color?
-I've been hearing some sketchy things about Locks of Love, but I was hoping to donate a ponytail after the hair chopping party! Can anyone suggest a similar, more reputable charity? My grandmother died of cancer last fall, and I told her I was going to donate my hair in her honor, since she ended up losing all of hers from the chemo.

Soo - help an indecisive girl out.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
