Fic Recs & A New Job
Yes...well...
It's been a busy month and I've hardly had time to catch up with le fandom! Ended my contract at work and am just about to start a new one! Will be teaching part-time at a kindergarden...I'm probably one of the last people anyone would imagine would work with kids, but funny how life works out this way sometimes! Lots and lots of RL pressure from the *evol* maternal being and family to get into a grad school...that means more studying for grad exams, applications... ack! Everything is still so unsettled though I've been back to this dark dark place for over a year now... It'll be a very busy next couple of months, so let's hope I hang in there!
Alrite, here are some new fic recs I've been promising to do for a while :D
NEW FIC RECS:
1. To The Ghost by heychasm
Summary: Draco, Hermione, and war stories about Ron. Ron/Hermione, Ron/Draco, Draco/Hermione. R for m/m sex, m/f not!sex, violence, and swear words.
Ra Says: This is a wonderful post-Hogwarts fic, with chillingly realistic characterizations of Draco, Hermione and Harry. It's not your usual Draco/Hermione fics, in fact there is Draco/Ron slash. There isn't even a true Draco/Hermione relationship in a sense, but it is truly recommended for those wanting to read something different. Great plot and extremely well-written with vivid descriptions and a powerful message about how war has marked the people it left behind.
2. Love In The Time of Hogwarts by Pixelarious
Summary: Ron and Pansy had an on-again, off-again relationship. They got it on until they got off. Ron/Pansy, NC-17...need I say more?
Ra Says: It's really hard to find any Ron/Pansy smutty fics at all Pointing fingers to Meagunnbatt, don't you think it's time someone ran a Ron/Pansy smutty fic drive?!? :P *hint hint* This is a nice afternoon kinda read with a sweet and simple plot. Ron and Pansy deny their relationship and do it all over Hogwarts!
3. Lights Out by Kphoebe
Summary: "And that's why they're there this first Tuesday night, he and Granger. They walk through the dark places of Hogwarts, after all the dormitory lights go out, and Hogwarts' students resign themselves to whatever waits in their dreams." Draco/Hermione, NC-17.
Ra Says: If you haven't read this...what are you waiting for? Even if you don't read Draco/Hermione, you should give this fic a try! It's a truly gripping and realistic one-shot that has one of the best Draco/Hermione dynamics and characterizations spot on! Some very poweful metaphors used and the story paces itself very well over an entire term. Even if you don't think there is a possiblity, this story will make you want to believe that there is.
4. Shattered Legacy by demcikova, otherwise known as Nexis Dea
Summary: One is always faced to relieve the past. However, to relieve the turmoils of that of your enemy is a hell unknown even to the cursed of this world. To speak the truth one must admit to it. However, it is a choice for all if us if we choose to accept it as fact or fiction. Draco/Hermione, R.
Ra Says: Nexis Dea remains one of the best writers of dark Draco/Hermione fics. I have long been a big fan since the days of her popular work Means To An Ends. In her world, a world of Voldemort, Death Eaters and and a coldconflicted!Draco, her Draco/Hermione relationships are probably as realistic as they come! I find her Draco characterization extremely brilliant, in that she is able to create Draco/Hermione despite a unredeemed!Draco...yet there is just enough tension between them for the reader to know that there is something there in the end. Her Draco appears cold and heartless yet is equally vulnerable at the same time and so sexy!!! Her ideas, plot twists and characterization is unique, and I highly recommend this story for those who want to read something beyond the usual Draco/Hermione smut or fluff. Also, make note of the the *HOTTEST* sexiest Leglimens scene I've ever come across! :P
5. Stockholm by Xin Yi
Summary: As an amnesiac under the care of Ginny Weasley comes closer to his identity, unaware of the trauma it inflicts on her, she is doing everything in her power to protect-or destroy-him, before they are bound together forever. Tom/Ginny, PG-13.
Ra Says: It's so hard to find a well-written Tom/Ginny fic! This particular story is written as a three-part fic, but interestingly there is a large chronological jump from each chapter, as if we're just given quick glances into their lives! Ginny's characterization is interersting as someone who was willing to give up everything to save Tom, to be with him. And though Tom slowly gains back his evil self... you can really feel their unspoken love - their bond - for one another. Interesting dialogues and change of scenes, the fic flows like a film.
6. In The Closet by Michi M. Chu
Summary: Ron needs to see a psychiatrist, Ginny's paranoid, and Harry’s in denial…Harry/Ginny, Harry/???, Ron/Hermione, R.
Ra Says: Definitely not a fic for the faint-hearted. This is beautifully chilling fic that will haunt you for a long time. A must read for the adventurous and something to avoid like the plague if dark controversial fics are not your thing. Regardless, it the subtle theme from the fic - one of every human desire to believe in an everlasting love - that gets straight to your heart.
7. What Ravages of Spirit by Merrycontrary
Summary: Draco Malfoy was never quite the same after his rescue from Voldemort’s dungeons. Draco/Ron, Draco/Narcissa, Ron/Narcissa, R.
Ra Says: The pairing was so unusual, I had to read it! It's dark and melancholic though, so it's good for those angsty rainy afternoons :D This is another war-torn post-Hogwarts fic that speaks of all the broken souls trying to move on in their lives. When there's nothing to live for, nothing is sacred anymore.
