Live in Bangkok .... Linkin Park and *Het* HP
Hi...
There are way too many fics I want to read, I need to read, which I haven't had time. And it doesn't help that there seems to be an abundance of new good fics coming up lately whose links I've saved and hopefully don't become too dusty by the time I read them! On a more merrier note, RL is about to become less busy so hopefully I'll be able to catch up on more fandom events.
Since my last LJ entry, there's been two major events. Firstly there was the LINKIN PARK LIVE IN BANGKOK CONCERT (yes, this city that I live in that's like 16,000 miles from the U.S.) on June 20th. What makes this really ultra special is the fact that Thailand hardly ever ever gets any live concerts, but this year, we have been getting a few good bands (Incubus, Korn, Black Eyed Peas). But the fact that one of the biggest bands on Earth right now came here and I was like...ohmifuckinggod three rows from the stage... it was really amazing! Went to the concert with Smashingsugar and like over 34,000 other people! It was held at the new biggest outdoor stadium and Mike Shinoda & Chester (and he's so cute in real life and so close!!!! *DIES*) said this is the biggest crowd they've ever played for! It was just wild, wild, madly wild ...Some people were waiting there since 3 pm for the opening bands, but we kind of got there around 7, and though we started out somewhere in the back of the crowd, by the end of the concert smashingsugar and I managed to mosh our way to the front three rows! Oh man, I've never seen so many people and so much energy in my life! Needless to say, the music was great and the crowd was crazy! The night ended with huge spectacular live fireworks over us!!! And Smashingsugar and I had to kiss one of the staffs on the cheek at the concert so we can get these free Linkin Park posters!!! But even more miraculous was the fact that I lost my favorite watch at the concert (it slipped out during the moshing) and was like trampled by over 10,000 people probably...and the fact that someone found the watch and I was able to retrieve it later! What are the chances of that opening at a *huge* concert? It's like finding a pin in the haystack...but I found it! Wow, there is really some good in the world after all :)
The second thing that has me preoccupied for the past few months is the theatre production of Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" which finally went on show last weekend! Five shows in three days - tiring, but it was well worth it! Nual and smashingsugar both came to see me ...though I probably failed to portray this 80 year old hag woman about to be hanged. This is my first play ever and hopefully my creativity has been put to good uses for the past months :) Yep, so now that this is over, I *really* need to get a move on my other RL stuffs: find a new job, check out grad schools, pursue my dream :D

Alrite, and now for the really important stuff like Harry Potter Fandom Fics :P I've been thinking about it for a while, but I think I'll try to contribute to this fandom by making this LJ an *active* fanfic recommending livejournal for Het Harry Potter fics, for the most part. This is not because I don't reat slash fics, I do - in fact, I read a lot of them and in increasingly higher numbers in recent months. However, I started out by reading het fics and I have noticed that there seems to be a lack of number of persons who recommend het fanfics on a regular basis. I notice that there are a number of people such as scribbulus_ink, switchknife, painless_j and ntamara to name a few who do superb regular fic recommendations although usually all if not most of their fics are slash fics.
So I guess, what I'm intending to do from this post onwards is to bring regular fic recomendations of well-written het-pairing fics (and occassionally slash ones when they're really reall good :D), although these fics would probably be more adult-themed in nature (PG-13 to NC-17 fics). However, I would like to state that these fic recommendations are probably very subjective as they reflect my own personal tastes and preferences, and I have a tendency to gravitate towards Gryffindor/Slytherin dynamics and rare het pairings more than cross-generation fics or common pairings. But of course, I'm always open to suggestions and new fics of any pairings, so if you know of any good het fics that I just must read, you can shoot them my way :)
Oh yes, and if you like het pairings, you definitely should go over to erotic_elves :D Also check out weekinthelife daily this week for seven complete Draco/Hermione fics in a collaboration project by seven writers :)
NEW FIC RECS:
1. Slither Hither by Scourgey
Summary: After a brief altercation in the hall, Harry Potter is under the distinct impression that Pansy Parkinson is out for his blood. But for some reason, Cho Chang is taking her side... Harry/Pansy, NC-17.
Ra Says: Although this fic appears to start off rather slow with a Harry/Cho (...just keep reading!), it quickly gets very *hot* and *steaming*. Pansy may appear OOC and irrational at times, but the lack of irrationality is what drives this fic. Pansy's motives are all tied with her love for Draco, her wish to make him happy and her inability to hate Harry as she should. There are some interesting dialogues as Pansy character's develops beforethesmutstartsandallmeltstoapoolofHAWTness!!!. This is a refreshing read if you're a fan of rare pairings or Pansy-centric fics. This is my favorite quote:
""W-what's wrong, Potter? Can't do the deed?!"
"This is wrong."

2. Somewhere In Between by Hownovel
Summary: A somewhat successful attempt at a second-person format. Written under the influence of Barry White and too many boy-gets-girl-loses-girl-wins-her-back chick flicks. Ron/Pansy, PG.
Ra Says: This is a short cute little R/P piece in which both characters are amazingly in character. Hownovel is known to write amazingly in-character Pansy fics (including Tom/Pansy fics). Written in 2nd person POV, it is one of the few post-Hogwarts fics which really makes us wish Ron/Pansy will happen.
3. Love by exeunt_
Summary: The war, death, and the aftermath. Draco/Hermione, R.
Ra Says: There seems to be an increasing number of short cogent fics written in present tense lately, and this is one of them. It is short and fragmented, and is presented to us as pieces of broken memories. A poetic piece.
4. What A Wonderful World and its sequel, What A Wonderful Night by Kaz814 (Rated PG-13 and NC-17, respectively.)
Summary: Angst! Two former enemies meet late one night in Diagon Alley, but it doesn’t end like either expect. Ron/Pansy.
Ra Says: Post-Hogwarts, this fic is really about second chances. Kaz814 is clearly a mature writer who paces her character development well, even within a short fic. The first part all reflects the maturity of her characters while offering a philosophical insights and world views. The second part is picks up where all the tension in the first part left off...and how it explodes when it does. Contains sensual waltzing and *hot* bathroom sex :D
5. Sunday Masquerade by Vexia
Summary:
"'Only sex', remember?
He frowns because he knows she's right. (Has she ever been wrong?)
Yes. Tonight, she is wrong.
And she doesn't even realise it. Draco/Hermione, R. A fic inspired by a comment at the dramionekink.
Ra Says: Another cogent powerful fic written in the present tense. Yet it clearly differs from Love in its tone and glimpse of hope. Set out as a sad fic, the story does a turn around, literally. Beautifully-written as if we catch brief glimpse of their lives before our eyes yet is capable of evoking strong emotions by the end of the fic. Gripping.
5. Another Sort of Evil by starrysummer
Summary: Summary: Something strange is happening at Hogwarts. Harry thinks it must be the work of Voldemort, but his attempts to share his suspicions and further investigate prove counterproductive. Harry/Snape, Draco/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Harry/Draco, Harry/Hermione, Harry/Ron, plus implied Draco/Hermione, Draco/Ron, Remus/Sirius, Remus/Tonks, Harry/Ginny, Hermione/Snape, R.
Ra Says: Something light for a change :) Containing both slash and het, this is a hilarious fic that will leave you rocking in your chair :P Draco's a snarky redeemed sexy god and Harry's ...well, sligtly overwhelmed :D
6. Keep Those Magical Fires Burning by bksncleverness
Summary: Ron and Draco help Hermione with a problem…with sexy results. Hermione/Draco/Ron, NC-17.
Ra Says:A threesome fic... Need I say more? :D No, seriously, it's not a pairing I read every day, but it's so hot it hurts! Contains Post-Hogwarts Draco/Ron, Ron/Hermione and Draco/Hermione...but woo hoo, the sex scenes are sizzling! Although the characters may seem OOC, keep in mind that they are supposed to be older and without the hassles of War. Moreover, considering that this sets out to be a smut, there are some interesting plots and ideas :) i.e. Hermione's declining magical powers and accidental magic in bed!!! At the same time, this sexy piece will also send you laughing by the end.
