Even though the Sihae hasn't started yet, this chapter has Donghae finally. and some KangTeuk and HanChul
Previous Chapter “I- huh- what? Werewolves?! A-are you kidding me? Those aren’t real.”
At this Leeteuk’s smirk widens. “Well, how else do you explain how fast you’ve healed from those wounds you received? A human couldn’t heal that fast.”
Siwon frowns at Leeteuk, his eyebrows drawing together. “Yeah, but still! Werewolves? There has to be another explanation for this.”
“It’s not just the healing Siwon-ssi. Haven’t you noticed yet? Can you smell it?” With this question Leeteuk crosses the remaining distance to the bed and lies down, propping himself up on one hand to watch Siwon.
Siwon cranes his neck to keep him in sight from his position on the floor. “Smell? Smell what?”
“Just try and tell me what you smell.”
Siwon is confused but complies and inhales deeply. He smells the blood from his bandages, and a weird tangy scent he’s never smelt before. He even thinks that coming from outside the room he can smell… is that rice? And an odor similar to the smell of his blood. The more he focuses the more he thinks he can smell. Scents coming from the furniture, from himself, from Ryeowook, from Henry, from Leeteuk.
Siwon relays all this to Leeteuk, wondering if he’s going crazy.
Leeteuk laughs. “Well for one, that rice scent you smell is Han Geng cooking in the kitchen, and the bloodlike smell would be the meat. and that weird tangy scent? That would be the scent of fear. Mostly coming from you and Henry over there. If we didn’t live in the city here, that would probably become one of your favourite scents.”
“Why?”
Leeteuk gives a predatory grin. “Because when you smell that, it means that you are close to the kill. That your prey is within your grasp. The rural wolves like to hunt for their dinner.” and then he flops back and stares at the ceiling “ But there isn’t much to hunt here in the middle of Seoul.” He blows a bit of hair out of his face and rolls his head to face Siwon again.
At this Ryeowook speaks up. “It can be really annoying here in the city.” Ryeowook looks up from where he’s finishing up re-wrapping Siwon’s bandages and catches his questioning glance and explains. “Several things, such as the scent of blood, or the scent of fear will wake the wolf in you… It becomes… very difficult to be around them. It’s not impossible of course, but….”
At this Henry laughs into his shoulder, and then shoots Ryeowook an amused look. “Me and you are living examples of that, hyung. Me a vet and you a doctor? Who would’ve thought we could pull it off?”
Ryeowook sends a Henry a smile and finishes tying off Siwon’s bandage, and stands up, grabbing the dirty bandages and rags off the floor. “There. That’s the last one. Now that you’re awake the healing process should speed up some. Hopefully by tomorrow most of the bandages will be ready to come off.” He gives a reassuring look. “ And you’re lucky. It looks like even the scars are going to fade away.”
Leeteuk looks between the three other boys and his lips quirk into a soft smile. “Well that’s good news. Thank you for your help, Ryeowook, Henry.”
Henry clambers to his feet and joins Ryeowook. “ Its no problem, hyung. We were glad to help…Right Ryeowook?”
Ryeowook nods and gives Siwon one last smile before heading out the door, Henry at his heels.
Siwon stands and turns to face Leeteuk, who raises himself into a sitting position.
Siwon is silent for a moment, but then speaks “I still don’t really believe what you’re saying about me being a werewolf now. I’m sorry…but there has to be another explanation for what’s happening to me.”
Leeteuk merely smiles again and rises to his feet. “No? Well, its true. Its what we are. What I am. And you’re one of us now.”
Siwon looks at him unsurely. Leeteuk steps away from the bed and out into the middle of the room. When he turns to look at Siwon his smile has fallen, and his eyes are glowing a silver so pale as to be almost white.
Siwon takes a step back in shock. He isn’t sure whats happening, what caused this change in the man in front of him. What he does know is that the power that the man brought with him into the room is gathering once again. It swirls through the air and almost visibly coalesces around the man, and Siwon can’t breathe.
Can’t stand. Can’t think. Oh my God. Its crushing me.
The pressure snaps and then in the blink of an eye Leeteuk shimmers and in his place is a pure white wolf. The wolf is lean but his fur is long, and it gives him a sense of presence that takes up the whole room. When the wolf raises his head to look Siwon in the eye, Siwon sees the same silver eyes of Leeteuk staring back at him.
The wolf, no Leeteuk, begins to pace forward. Every step he takes has Siwon backing up one until the backs of his legs hit the bed. Seeing this Leeteuk growls and snaps, sending Siwon tumbling back onto the bed. Leeteuk moves the last few feet and raises himself up with front paws on the bed. He gives a final growl and shimmers again, the man replacing the beast, kneeling on the floor with his arms crossed on the bed.
Leeteuk looks up at Siwon and gives a comforting smile. “I’m sorry if I scared you. But it was the quickest way to get you to believe that we exist. And you need to believe. You’re one of us now, and we watch after our own. But if you don’t believe, and don’t accept it, fight against it.” Leeteuk shrugs here” Well,, we can’t protect you from yourself.”
All Siwon can do is look at the man with a shell shocked expression, his breathing rapid, and his heart about to beat out of his chest.
Leeteuk stands once again and walks towards the door. When he reaches it he turns and says, “ Get some rest, I know this comes as shock. Take some time to think, and I’ll send someone by with food soon. You’ve got to be hungry.” With a parting smile thrown over his shoulder, Leeteuk leaves and shuts the door behind him.
Siwon stares after him and unwittingly a single word surfaces in the front of his mind and he, all of him, feels a strange feeling of acceptance.
Alpha.
--------------------------------
Leeteuk shuts the door behind him and looks out into the room where several other people are waiting. He walks over to an empty couch and sinks down bonelessly, leaning over and resting an elbow against the arm. He shuts his eyes tightly and rubs at his head. “I’m getting too old for this.” he mutters softly.
He hears foot steps approaching and the one scent he could recognize anywhere in the world envelopes him as a he feels a strong pair of arms wrap around him from behind.
“Youngwoon.” Leeteuk breathes.
He feels the mental presence of his other half, his Mate, surround his mind, asking to be let in. Leeteuk smiles in relief and lets his head fall back and rest against the shoulder of the man behind him. Kangin gazes down into Leeteuk’s face, and when they make eye contact Leeteuk feel rush of warmth, concern, love, coming from the other male.
{Jungsu…}
Leeteuk smiles up at him. {I’m okay. I just don’t know what’s going on and I hate it. How could this have happened in the middle of my territory? }
{Its okay Leeteuk. Calm down. We’ll figure this out together, me, you, and the rest of us. After all, we’re pack right? And you are my mate.}
{Right. My mate}
Suddenly a loud voice interrupts them. “Well if it isn’t the two lovebirds.”
Leeteuk sits forward again and rests his elbow on his knees while Kangin straightened up. Leeteuk gives the newcomer a wry smile. “Hello, Heechul.”
Heechul, his long black hair tied up into a ponytail, saunters over and slings himself over the corner of the opposite side of the couch. “So, Alpha. What’s going on with the new brat?”
At this the two other men remaining in the room perk up and face Leeteuk, one of them even going as far as to come and sit on the coffee table Indian style. The other, a foreign looking man with short black hair speaks up and delivers his question with in accented Korean “Did you find anything that might tell you who…attacked him?”
Heechul snorts at this and looks at the man. “Honestly Geng, how many years have you been living with us, and you still have that accent?”
Han Geng merely glances at Heechul and replies, “Its a habit.” in flawless Korean, before returning to face Leeteuk. Heechul rolls his eyes and does the same “Well, Leeteuk?”
Leeteuk sighs heavily. “I’m afraid not, his mind is pretty torn up from a combination of the attack itself and the Turning. I couldn’t really get anything from him, not without a formal pack bond.”
Heechul growls a bit and looks up towards the ceiling. “So still no closer. How fucking wonderful.”
“Heechul!” Han Geng admonished. At this Leeteuk merely shakes his head and says “Its fine Geng.”
Kangin speaks up at this moment “This is trouble. We’ve a rogue wolf in our territory. And Leeteuk is one of the oldest and most powerful alphas around. I don’t know any one who would be able to get in and out of here without him knowing…What about you hyungs? I know you’ve all been around a lot longer than me.”
Heechul and Han Geng looked at each other and frowned but it was Leeteuk who raises his voice “ Soo Man maybe…. But why would the werewolf leader want to come into my territory and Turn a random human? It doesn’t make any sense!!” He abruptly stands, eyes once again silver and blazing with fury. “ I swore when we decided to stay in the city instead of relocating, that we wouldn’t Turn any more humans. Being a werewolf isn’t an easy life. And to find out that one has been turned right under my nose, in the middle of MY territory, and by an intruder at that, is simply INFURIATING!!” He whirls and stalks towards the hallway, a growl emanating from low in his throat. He stops briefly at the doorway and says “ I’m gonna head out and see if I can find any traces of the attacker”
Kangin shifts to look at the other before sighing “ I’m going to and go see if I can calm him down.”
Heechul smirks “That’s a role reversal.”
Kangin shoots him a dirty look before rolling his eyes at the effeminate man, and quickly strides out of the room after his mate.
When the two have left the room Han Geng turns to Heechul “Leeteuk is really upset over this. It could be big trouble.”
Heechul snorts “No shit. If he wasn’t half way out his mind right now with anger and worry, he wouldn’t have had this discussion right outside the new brat’s room. Lets hope the kid wasn’t paying attention enough to hear because, if he does and freaks out, you know that Leeteuk is going to blame himself.” here Heechul rolls his eyes “Again.”
“Chul….”
Heechul sighs and bestows the Chinese male with a small smile “I know Geng, I’m just frustrated and taking it out on whatever I can get to. Kangin and I haven’t been around as long as you three have, but we’re still damn protective of our pack. And something big is coming, I can feel it.”
Han Geng raises his eyebrow at the man “ I don’t doubt it.”
With this statement Han Geng stands up. Heechul looks over at him, and then rises as well. Walking to the exit Heechul calls over his shoulder. “Enough of this mushy crap. I’m gonna go. I have stuff to do and people to see..... or is that the other way around. ” He pauses and shoots Han Geng a smirk before disappearing around the corner. “ Aren’t you coming… dear?”
The two remaining men can hear his laughter reverberating down the hall for a few moments. Then Han Geng shakes his head and sends a helplessly fond look at the empty door before he turns to the man who has been silent to that point. The man is still sitting on the coffee table and has a contemplative look on his face. Han Geng looks at him, amused, but he can feel the stirrings of concern for the younger and smaller male. “Why are you so quiet Hae? It’s not like you to stop talking for more than few a seconds. I’m surprised you haven’t butted into the discussion by now.”
The brown haired man’s expression quickly disappears and he turns a grin to Han Geng, tucking a strand of his slightly wavy hair behind his ear. “ Its nothing Gege. I was thinking about the new wolf. I went in there earlier when Ryeowook and Henry were first fixing him up, and he looks pretty cool doesn’t he? I wonder what he does for a living. And did you see his muscles? I bet he’s stronger than Kangin. And-”
Han Geng cuts him off with a laugh. “ Okay, Okay, Hae. I get it. Here, I heard Leeteuk tell him-”
“His name is Siwon! Isn‘t it a cool name?” Donghae buts in.
Han Geng corrects “Tell Siwon, then, that someone would bring him some food in a little while. Why don’t you go to the kitchen and get some of my Beijing fried rice, and bring some to him? Maybe maybe getting to talk to him will calm you down a bit. You always get a bit... off, when we get a new member.”
“Technically, we don’t even know if he’s going to join the pack or not yet. But I hope he does! And its fun to meet new people Gege. ” Donghae’s happy expression falters and he glances towards the ground. “ I was alone for so long. And then it was just me, and you, and Leeteuk for forever.” He brightens back up “New people means I get to have new friends and family!”
Han Geng looks Donghae with a knowing expression and leans over and wraps the smaller man in a brief hug before kneeling down to search his face. He reaches out and grasps Donghae‘s shoulders “Are you really okay Hae? Because I know how you get when you meet newly turned wolves. What happened to you we won’t let happen to him. Understand?”
Donghae’s grin softens and he leans forward to place his forehead against Han Geng‘s. He takes a deep breath and when he speaks its no longer in Korean he had grown up speaking, but in the Chinese that Han Geng had taught him so long ago “I know Gege, I trust you. I trust Teukie-hyung. Above all others. You helped me then, and even after so many years you’re still here to catch me when I fall, you are my Packbrothers.”
Donghae looks Han Geng directly in the eye for a moment and then leaned back. When he spoke again it was in his native Korean . “I’ll be fine. Now. You had better go Hannie, before Heechul gets jealous and comes after me for trying to steal his mate away from him.”
Han Geng searches Donghae’s face one final time before standing up. He’s amused when he answers “ As if Heechul would do that. I swear that sometimes, I think he likes you more than me.”
Donghae’s smile morphs into a mischievous grin “ Well, I am his favourite after all.”
Han Geng laughs. “True. Fine, I’m going. Bring Siwon-ssi some food, Hae, okay?”
Donghae nods with a bright smile on his face. “Alright.”
It’s only when he’s sure he’s alone in the room that he finally allows the smile to fade. His forehead creases in thought and runs his hands trough his hair, before allowing it to fall back to brush his shoulders, the ends curling out a little. He doesn’t know why, but when Heechul mentioned feeling something big coming, Donghae could say that he knew the feeling. And for some reason it keeps prickling at his mind, but when he reaches for it, it disappears. He doesn’t know how or why, but knows none the less.
Something big is coming.
