So I told tvashtri I would update about this so I will.
Novemeber 30th I checked my bank account online and noticed something wierd...a $122 withdrawal for NSLC. I called my dad and had him call the bank for me (cuz he's better at yelling at people than I am) and he found out, it wasn't the bank, it was actually OSAP.
So I called osap right away, and apparently they had started taking money from me because I never let them know I was still in school.
After talking and yelling at the chick, I calmed down and realized everything that happened.
1. I had received a letter when we were still living in Thorold saying that if I didn't let them know I was in school, they would start taking money in November. I received this letter before I knew about my job acceptance at Dofasco, and therefore before I knew whether or not I was actually getting OSAP (receiving osap automatically updates your file with the loan centre).
2. We then moved into st. catharines I didn't really realize that I was dealing with the loan centre, and did not know I had to contact them (did not know HOW to contact them) to let them know we moved.
3. They apparently sent out another notice in september (to the old address) and the people there never sent it back. Therefore the loan centre didn't know I had moved and just assumed I was ok with them taking my money.
4. When it was clear I was not going to receive any osap, the school did not contact me to let me know I had to come fill out this form to stay in intrest-free status, and therefore I had no idea I had to do this (as I have not had to for the last 3 years). Actually, yes, in the email they send out saying "come get your osap" I believe there is something about intrest-free status....but it kinda shows how prominent it is in the email when I can't really remember.
5. So they have now taken money from me that I can not get back (that I really needed) and I had to rush into the school on Monday to just fill out a stupid form that apparently fixed the problem right away. However, if there is any outstanding intrest, I have to pay that as well.
I seriously think that the loan centre needs to retink their policy. 1, if they do not get ANY response, they should assume something is wrong and try to contact the person another way. 2, they should not be allowed to take your money without written approval. Because if this happened and I hadn't even received the first letter, I would have had no notice that they were going to take my money! How is that fair?!
All I can say is that I'm glad I'm going to be in teacher's college next year and that I can apply for osap and that I'll probably get it because I can finally claim independence. lol.
So there you are Vicky. That's what my MSN name was about.
