Title: Stories (30/30/30 day one.)
Fandom: FullMetal Alchemist
Couple: Ling/Lan Fan
Song: A Melody, The Memory - mae
Rating: G
Notes: Originally was going to be Mr. Brightside by the killers, but only the first verse fit them . . So I used this song. It's a much more cheerful then if I had used the other one though! Also, I think this possibly is OC for them (at least Ling) but IDK. I also wanted this to be longer.
There were stories. Stories from Xing and foreign countries that told off princes disguising themselves and sneaking off to take part of a festival. Lan Fan always thought they were just that, stories. She did not think an actual prince of Xing would act that way.
Of course, there had never been a prince like Ling.
“Young Master, I think you have to re-consider.” She paced across the floor while he tried to change his look in just the right way.
“I did, and I came up with the same decision.” He said, deciding against a pair of round sunglasses. “Besides, I think you and I need to have some fun together for once.”
The princes in the stories often went for themselves; they did not think to bring their guard with them.
“Well, that’s another thing.” Lan Fan tried to reason with him again. “If we go together then someone will recognize me!”
“Wrong again!” Ling said. He walked over to Lan Fan and gently took the mask off her face. “You’re always wearing this when you’re out in public, so no one will recognize you if you don’t wear it.”
Lan Fan had started to blush as soon as he touched her mask, and now she was blushing even more.
“I guess you thought of everything.” She said, too quietly for him too hear. Ling had disappeared to another room, as if suddenly realizing something. When he returned he was holding bundles of clothing for both of them.
Without saying anything, he gave her clothes and went back into the other room to change. That left Lan Fan to herself. She looked at herself in Ling’s mirror. She did not look at her face often, so seeing it there was almost as if it was not her. She took her hair down and started changing, and thinking.
Thinking back to the time, they were both younger. When she was not his guard, just a friend. Before the emperor became ill and he became so fixated on being his successor. Now she could not even hear the word with out thinking of how many wives he would have someday.
She dressing and looked at herself in the mirror again. Ling had been right, without the mask and some different clothes, she looked completely different. She sighed and looked away.
Was she being selfish to want to be his only one? Part of her answered yes, but a different part, possibly a bigger part, answered no.
“This is so hard.” She said aloud. Immediately after Ling came back into the room.
“I’m back!” he was dressed completely different, wearing his hair differently and wearing the glasses he had decided against earlier.
“Young Mas-“
“You look great, Lan Fan!” He said smiling. “By the way, you probably shouldn’t call me Young Master, It’ll tip people off.”
“Eh?”
“You’ll just have to call me Ling, then!” He said, smiling again.
If Lan Fan had been blushing before, it was even more intense now. She had not called him by his name in years.
“Come on, you can say it can’t you?” He said, walking across the room so he was closer to her. He looked at her, and she was still blushing.
“Come on.” He prodded, slightly cocking his head to the side.
“L-Ling.” She said finally.
“Good!” Ling said, ruffling her hair. “Although most people will recognize my name so we should probably think of off something else.
Lan Fan stood there and just stared at him. She had been so wrapped up in the moment she had not thought of that. She figured he was just teasing her, but again, another part of her said he wanted to hear her say his name.
Not everything went like the stories. The stories did not have a prince and his guard sneaking away. Stories did not have the memories of magical night intertwined with the music playing at festivals. Stories did not have you hurrying to sneak back in before your grandfather found out. Stories did not have a prince sneaking a kiss on his guard’s cheek.
That night, Lan Fan decided her life was better then any story, even if it might not close with a happy ending
